Registered Nurse I - PT - Nassau Community College

Job Description:

The Student Health Services Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Part-time Registered Nurse I to join the nursing staff and who will follow the nursing care plan for individualized care and perform all required functions in diagnosing and treating human responses to health problems. Under supervision of a nurse of higher rank or a physician, duties also require the application of specialized judgment and skills in accordance with a prescribed nursing care plan. Supervision may be exercised over an auxiliary nursing staff.

In addition, Part-time Registered Nurse I will:

• Apply nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients.

• Administer over-the-counter medications and treatments; performs related nursing functions.

• Assume responsibility for pertinent recording of observations, medications, treatments, patient reactions and activities.

• Work closely with the local Departments of Health regarding cases of COVID-19 for members of Nassau Community College student population and assist with contract tracing. Maintains information on best practices related to COVID-19, flu, and other illness and stay up to date on potential pandemic information. Evaluate daily health COVID-19 health questionnaire for all students.

• Maintains and updates student immunization records.

• Review and screen Nursing and Allied Health Student Health Physicals.

Requirements:

The Part-time Registered Nurse I should have:

• Knowledge of practices and principles of professional nursing care.

• Ability to apply nursing techniques related to standard medical and surgical practices.

• Ability to maintain records and charts and to prepare reports.

• Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward patients.

• Ability to develop good working relationships within the Campus Community and other stakeholders.

Additional Information:

Minimum qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• Possession of a current license or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

• Completion of the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Contact Tracing Course a plus.

Additional Information:

The pay rate for the position is $37.52 per hour.

Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
