We are currently seeking talented Nursing professionals to join the Emergency Department Nursing team. The Emergency Department (RN) Fellowship is a full time intensive six (6) month comprehensive, blended educational program that utilizes modules through the ENA. The fellowship is aimed at preparing a select group of RN's for independent practice in the area of Emergency nursing at St. Luke's University Health Network.

Ideal candidates for application to the St. Luke's Emergency Department Fellowship Program are:

  • Nursing students with prospective Spring/Fall/Winter graduation dates who will be eligible

to sit for NCLEX and obtain licensure before start of fellowship

  • Experienced RN's that have not worked in the Emergency Department setting.

The Emergency Room Fellowship is conducted at various sites within the St. Luke's University Health Network and is supervised by the Emergency Department Fellowship coordinator.

Upon successful completion of the Emergency Department RN Internship Program, the intern will work in a St. Luke's Emergency Department where he/she will practice caring for patients across their lifespans.

Process:

  • If selected, must be available to begin Orientation as established by the program.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.

  • Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.

  • Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.

  • Organizes, coordinates and prioritizes patient care consistently utilizing available resources.

  • Maintains an awareness of unit budget.

  • Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers.

  • Takes active role in unit-based performance improvement.

  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.

  • Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.

  • Participates in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth of the Patient Services Department.

  • Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.

  • Collaborates with other caregivers to assure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 500 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above should level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Current RN license in the State of Pennsylvania

The Emergency Department RN delivers nursing care for patients across their life span, and through the nursing process, assesses, plans, implements, and documents the effects of care. Works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice. Based upon the work location (PA or NJ) the nursing functions of the RN are carried out according to the Pennsylvania Code, Title 49 Professional and Vocational Standards or the NJ Nurse Practice Act hospital policy, the hospital mission statement, and the hospital philosophy of nursing. This full-time, mid-shift flexible start position provides 3-12 hours shifts/week and may include start times of 9A, 11A and 1P. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the Registered Nurse. * Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. * Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients. * Demonstrates knowledge in disaster preparedness. * Triages patients appropriately according to the ESI 5 Level Triage. * Demonstrates skills in crisis intervention for unique patient populations such as sexual assault and abuse, survivors, and psychiatric emergencies. * Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate referral and transportation procedures. * Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purpose. * Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers. * Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. * Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. * Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). * Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. * Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. * Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. * Other related duties as assigned.
