Nurse Educator

Essex Center is actively seeking Registered Nurse Educator to work for our Skilled Nursing Facility in Elizabethtown, NY.

Job Duties:

  • Keeps staff interested and involved in their own professional development.

  • Can present a lively, interesting and informative in-service.

  • Leads staff development programs by providing instruction designed in safety, body mechanics, infection control, hazardous infectious materials, etc. to meet NYSDOH & other regulatory mandates

  • Maintains educational practices by coaching, counseling, and may participate in the disciplinary process; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Records and documents educational activity, attendance, and responses

  • Report on active projects, reactions, and progress daily, weekly and monthly.

  • Participation in QAPI monthly meetings and projects

  • Assist the Director of Quality and or Director of Nursing in planning, coordinating and implementing staff programs and services to ensure a well-educated staff.

  • Maintain appropriate records and assist in data collection for assessment and evaluation purposes. Statistical ability a plus.

  • Consults with and keeps DNS, ADN, Admin informed as appropriate or required

  • Team player, cultivating good inter and intradepartmental relationships, interacting effectively with all internal and external customers

  • Reviews incident reports, OSHA reports, involving employees injured at work & coordinates education, loss prevention program with our safety program

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 2 years Nurse Educator experience

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License

  • Experience working in a long-term care setting

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively educate and coach

  • CPR certification required, CPR trainer certified or willing to become a trainer.

  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices

  • Must possess the ability to interact, educate, coach and communicate with a wide cross-section of individuals in a courteous, tactful and effective manner

  • Must possess the highest ethical standards with respect to discretion and regard for confidentiality

  • Committed to basic ethical and legal principles

  • Possess knowledge of all-hazards emergency preparedness, safety, fire, disaster, OSHA.

  • Knowledgeable of infection control procedures

  • Ability to handle required record keeping

  • PowerPoint or other presentation program familiarity a plus.

  • Computer literate.

Accurately performs nursing actions to achieve patient care goals. * Establishes priorities of patient care based on the needs of the patient. * Implements a comprehensive patient care plan that includes baseline admission data, plans for treatment plans and goals for discharge. * Implements specific interventions, treatments, and medications as defined in the plan of care and documents outcomes. * Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate actions. * Consistently uses tools available in the electronic medical record (EMR) to ensure patient safety and to optimize patient care: * o Performs real-time documentation * o Reviews task list at least every two hours. Initiates and signs off physician orders promptly. * o Initiates diagnosis specific IPOCs and updates at least once per shift or change in patient condition. * o Performs bedside report using the Care Compass feature in the EMR at each hand-off report. * Complies with national patient safety standards regarding patient identification prior to treatments and medication administration. * Accurately administers all medications in a safe manner displaying competence in the use of an automated dispensing machine and mPPID technology where applicable. * Accurately and safely performs and supervises the care of patients requiring complex interventions. * Maintains aseptic technique, demonstrating knowledge of infection control practices. * Accurately sets up, maintains, monitors and supervises use of IV pump, PCA pump, and epidural pump. * Maintains a safe environment within the hospital for patients and families.
