Overview
As a key member of the clinical support team within the Voice and Swallowing Center, a part of the Division of Laryngology within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, this position plays a vital role in the overall management of the manometry services offered within the Division as well as assist patients in the transition between inpatient and outpatient care.
The Division is currently active at three practice locations but it is anticipated that this role will spend the majority of their time and effort at the office located inside of Norfolk General Hospital.
The position works collaboratively with all Division staff members, and providers, and has direct accountability to the Division Director.
Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse Navigator for the Laryngology Division, this role will participate on the multi-disciplinary team as an advocate and educator for Laryngology patients.
Provides safe, quality and efficient care to patients undergoing manometry testing.
Responsible for scheduling, preparing and performing all manometry testing and providing studies to faculty for analysis and interpretation.
Serves as an advocate to identify barriers and find resources for needed patient care.
Serves as a liaison throughout the Medical School and partner organizations regarding available services in the Voice and Swallowing Center.
Assists patients and family members pursuing care in the Voice and Swallowing Center in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and available resources.
Assists with outreach efforts and screening activities associated with the Center.
Coordinates data collection and tracks clinical outcome data for the Division.
Facilities needed appointments and support services.
Provides services for all age populations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. Must be a licensed RN in Virginia. BLS and ACLS Certification preferred. At least two years of clinical work experience is preferred. Previous experience with manometry preferred. Database management and basic spreadsheet knowledge preferred. PC proficiency required as well as a strong comfort level with EPIC required.
Ability to think and work independently, insight, excellent organizational skills, astute and accurate patient assessment skills, and the ability to identify and assign priorities are all needed skills.
