The University Health Center is accepting applications for an RN. This position is responsible to the Director of the Student Health Clinic for evaluating and treating student health complaints following nursing protocols; assisting other health care providers; ensuring patient safety; patient teaching; assisting with student education programs; and performing other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to operate equipment including computer, autoclave, centrifuge, microscope, cash register, blood pressure units, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, electric thermometers, etc.

• Ability to communicate effectively with university personnel at various levels, students, parents, representatives of the community, and the medical community.

• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of patient records.

• Ability to keep records and reports.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job across various settings in the classroom, simulation, clinical, and/or community as required and/or needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position themself and balance. The employee must occasionally move (including lift, carry, push, and pull) up to 100 pounds or more. The employee must be able to perceive and respond to sounds and alarms; communicate effectively with others; be able to observe and monitor situations and details at close range in full and dimmed light. The employee may be required to move and/or stay in a stationary position in various settings for up to 12 hours at a time in addition to preparing and closing a clinical shift. Rapid mobility may also be required on occasion. Physical expectations of an assigned clinical facility may vary and be subject to change.

Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of clinical nursing experience.

• Tennessee licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or obtained by time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ambulatory care.
