Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing plus six years of professional nursing experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A master's degree in nursing or public health will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Specialized degrees less than a doctorate will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

A doctorate in nursing or public health will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Specialized degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Association of Schools and Colleges; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Direct all nursing care services within a facility.

Establishes standards of nursing care and performance of all personnel within the nursing department.

POSITION SUMMARY The Charge Nurse (RN) /Staff Nurse (RN) is a registered professional nurse who prescribes, coordinates, and evaluates patient care through collaborative efforts with health team members in accordance with the nursing process and the standards of care and practices. The Charge Nurse (RN) /Staff Nurse (RN) must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served. The Charge Nurse (RN) /Staff Nurse (RN) have supervisory responsibilities for LPN and Program Specialists (MHT/RCW). Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience as a registered nurse in a psychiatric health care facility preferred. Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the State Board of Nursing.
