Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona, is proud to be a comprehensive multi-disciplinary cancer center who insures comfort, consistency and continuity by taking an innovative approach to oncology care. In this role you will be working with the cancer prevention team to develop healthcare prevention plans, identify patients and work to get patients processed with the clinical team. This position is either 4'8s or 5'8s M-F and great for someone with Oncology experience who is tech savvy, passionate about projects and cancer programs!

Job Summary

This position coordinates, plans, and directs the daily functioning and staffing needs of the unit or department under the guidance and direction of the director. Provides leadership, positive role modeling and critical thinking skills to facilitate staff development.

Serves as a liaison between all disciplines by effectively communicating, educating and problem solving. Proactively supports the quality and continuity of services throughout the healthcare systems. Assists in resolution of systems issues and enforces unit/department policy/procedures and standards of care, assists in evaluations, disciplinary and hiring functions and other duties under the direction of the director.

Essential Functions

Coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards and is a role model and resource person for providing quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency on unit/department.

Determines and directs staffing needs of unit/department on a shift-to-shift basis. Facilitates staff to patient ratios in a fiscally responsible manner under the direction of the director.

Coordinates, supports and facilitates continuity of care and communication between departments, institutions and across the continuum to ensure positive outcomes of patient care services.

Assists in oversight of staff and workflow of patients. Facilitates interdepartmental teamwork. Assists in the oversight of resource utilization for the department, including human, financial, equipment, supply resources.

Participates in evaluation process by giving input.

Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participating in professional organizations.

In some roles, this position may supervise staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.

Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job. Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired.

Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Previous experience in a leadership role preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Essential Functions * Manages individual patients across the transplant health care continuum to achieve optimal clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction outcomes. Facilitates, coordinates, and monitors pre-transplant evaluations, the care of the transplant candidate awaiting transplantation, the care of the transplant recipient post transplant in the outpatient clinic. Facilitates and coordinates the care of the living donor for evaluation, donation and long term follow-up. Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team to plan and implement the patients treatment plan, utilizing effective oral and written communication. * Facilitates the safe, equitable and timely placement of donor organs in conjunction with the donor procurement agency on a 24 hour on call basis in accordance with the regulatory agencies. Possesses advanced knowledge of OPTN/UNOS regulations and allocation policies. Collects and communicates patient information necessary for decision making regarding organ acceptance/rejection for transplant with the organ procurement agency and transplant surgeon. Reviews potential recipients current medical status to determine eligibility for transplant. Demonstrates advanced prioritization and critical thinking skills in order to contact/locate patient(s), arrange admission and pre-surgery procedures, schedule surgery and the surgery team, and educate patient/family. * Interprets and administrates current payor contracts to best meet the financial needs of the patient and program while maximizing facility and program reimbursement. Possesses integral knowledge of multiple payor contracts. Applies this knowledge to assure that services being furnished to the patients are in compliance with contract stipulations. Obtains appropriate transplant authorizations for services rendered for each phase of the transplant. * Establishes and promotes a collaborative relationship with physicians, third party payers, and other members of the health care team, utilizing effective oral and written communication. Serves as a resource to payors, health care providers, patients, physicians and their office staff for the referral of patients or re-directs to alternate transplant programs as required by insurance constraints.Educates other health care providers, payors and patients on concepts of managed care, managed care networks, transplant networks, individual care policies as it pertains to solid organ transplant. * Serves as a resource to the community, patients, family members, potential living donors, primary care physicians and payers regarding the transplant process. Develops and presents education and marketing programs. Participates in community and professional education efforts to promote transplantation and organ donation. * Participates in the transplant programs quality assurance program. Evaluates current processes, identifies need for change and implements change via process improvement projects to achieve the optimal clinical, financial, operational and satisfaction outcomes. Acts as a change agent by continually monitoring processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Implements change through a multi-disciplinary work group process. Minimum Qualifications Requires current RN license in state of practice. Requires a minimum of three years clinical nursing experience; at least two of those years in the clinical specialty area. Must have a working knowledge of care management, resource/utilization management, and hospital and community resources. Must demonstrate clinical proficiency in the care of transplant patients. Requires critical thinking skills to effectively coordinate a large volume of patients simultaneously. Must demonstrate problem-solving abilities, effective oral and written communication skills, and time management skills. Must demonstrate ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team format. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
