JOB OPPORTUNITY

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Registered Nurse in the Health, Housing & Community Services Department (HHCS). In this role, you will provide nursing care in a City outpatient clinic or in patients' homes. Services include assessments, examinations, diagnostic testing and treatment planning under the supervision of a physician.

In the Mental Health Division, incumbents are expected to have a solid foundational knowledge of psychiatric illnesses, substance use disorders, and general medical conditions. The ideal candidate can perform comprehensive nursing assessments of both physical and mental health conditions, conduct thorough mental status examinations, and demonstrate a working knowledge of psychotherapeutic treatments and psychotropic medications. Incumbents provide services in the clinic, in patients' homes, and in homeless encampments.

In the Public Health Division, incumbents work in a clinic setting and are expected to have knowledge and experience in first aid, immunizations, TB skin testing and reading, and general medical conditions. The ideal candidate can perform comprehensive nursing assessments of physical conditions and administer first aid, as well as coordinate and deliver immunization services, including medication inventory, reporting and management of provider relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Two (2) years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a public health setting.

Other requirements include:

• Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in California.

• Must be willing to work evenings or weekends.

• Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

• Positions may require bilingual or bicultural skills.
