GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To provide professional nursing care to patients/clients; to develop and provide direct nursing care and treatment by assessing the patients'/clients' needs, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care; to be responsible and accountable for patient care and other licensed personnel during those work hours when hospital administration and ancillary management personnel are not immediately available for problem resolution and decision making; and to do related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: According to the model of service delivery, general duty assignments arereceived by a nursing superior; nursing supervision is provided by individuals of a higher classificationwithin the same discipline; work is subject to review and evaluation for compliance with instructions,professional nursing standards and procedures..

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: According to the model of service delivery, to supervise, monitor and evaluate the activities of Licensed Practical Nurses, graduate, nurses, student nurses, attendants, mental health workers and auxiliary ward personnel.

  • To provide professional nursing within an in-patient facility or community service facility.

  • To participate in the intake process by interviewing, assessing, and formulating nursing diagnosis andgoal setting for patient/clients.

  • To be responsible and accountable for patient care and other licensed personnel during those workhours when hospital administration and ancillary management personnel are not immediately available forproblem resolution and decision making.

  • To interpret nursing and health care needs to other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • To act as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • To provide medical and nursing therapies, health care instructions and counseling to clients andfamilies.

  • To document interactions with clients according to agency policy.

  • To apply the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and

  • evaluation in the care of clients.

  • To communicate health, medical and nursing information to other members of the interdisciplinaryteam.

  • To provide instructions to patients/clients and staff on an on-going basis.

  • To monitor health status of patients/clients.

  • To do related work as required.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of current and approved nursing practices and methods; a commitment to maintain competency within the field of nursing through regular participation in continuing nursing education programs, workshops, seminars and conferences; and related capacities and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must meet nursing registration requirements as required by Rhode Island law and regulations and must maintain such requirements as a condition of employment. At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.

Pre-Employment Requirements for all candidates to receive a position at ESH is the proof of immunity against:

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)

Varicella (Chickenpox),

Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap),

Hepatitis B titers,

Tuberculin Skin Test (TST)

VIEW JOBS 11/22/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-02-20T00:00 <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To provide professional nursing care and treatment to inmates in the Adult Correctional Institutions; to assess clients' needs and plan, develop, implement and evaluate nursing care and treatment programs; and to do related work as required.</p><p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision; work is subject to review and evaluation for compliance with instructions, professional nursing standards and practices.</p><p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Plans, monitors and evaluates the activities of licensed practical nurses and ancillary unit personnel engaged in providing nursing and /or health care services to inmates and staff.</p><ul><li><p>To provide professional nursing services within the Department of Corrections.</p></li><li><p>To conduct nursing interviews, assess and formulate nursing diagnoses, and to set clinical nursing goals for clients.</p></li><li><p>To interpret nursing and health care needs of inmates to other members of inmates to other members of the interdisciplinary team.</p></li><li><p>To provide medical and nursing therapies, health care instructions and counseling to inmates and families.</p></li><li><p>To provide in-service education to departmental health care staff.</p></li><li><p>To participate in educational, quality assurance and research activities.</p></li><li><p>To continually monitor the health status of clients and to modify their nursing care plans as the need arises.</p></li><li><p>To monitor clients' mental health status and make referrals to mental health staff as indicated.</p></li><li><p>To provide intravenous therapy as directed by the physician including; starting the IV, maintaining an IV infusion pump if appropriate, determining and monitoring the flow rate, administering IV medications and other clinical actions appropriate to intravenous therapy.</p></li><li><p>To administer IV, IV-push and Z-track medications as ordered by physician.</p></li><li><p>To administer and monitor total parenteral nutrition (TPN).</p></li><li><p>T provide suctioning as indicated, including tracheostomy, deep nasal pharyngeal and oral suctioning.</p></li><li><p>To provide routine tracheostomy care.</p></li><li><p>To insert GI (Gastrointestinal) tubes as directed by physician and to provide and monitor GI feedings if appropriate (internal feedings, both intermittent and continuous).</p></li><li><p>To change dressings on wounds involving multiple tissue layers and to irrigate communicating wounds as ordered by physician.</p></li><li><p>To respond to emergency codes anywhere in the institution, assess injuries and provide first aid to inmates and staff.</p></li><li><p>To safeguard institution keys and to lock and unlock secured clinical areas including exam rooms, storage areas, medicine closets and related areas.</p></li><li><p>To make observations and report any unusual activities of inmate patients or other inmates in the facility.</p></li><li><p>To supervise the feeding of meals to patients and instruct or direct inmates to ensure security is maintained.</p></li><li><p>To read and follow instructions, manuals, physician's orders, the Physician's Desk Reference and related material.</p></li><li><p>To keep records and make reports.</p></li><li><p>To participate in continuing nursing education programs, workshops, seminars and conferences.</p></li><li><p>To do related work as required.</p></li></ul><p>KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of current approved registered nursing practices, methods, procedures and techniques; the ability to read and comprehend complex and technical instructions, manuals and related information; the ability to instruct or direct LPN's or other health service staff; the ability to provide in-service training to health care providers; the ability to follow oral instructions; the ability to maintain records and prepare reports; and related abilities and capacities.</p><p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p><p>Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a registered nursing program in an accredited school of nursing.</p><p>Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment as a registered nurse in an institution hospital or similar care facility providing nursing care and treatment.</p><p>Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.</p><p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  The following condition of employment must be met at the time of appointment: Must possess a valid unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island, and maintain such licensure as a condition of employment.</p><br> State Of Rhode Island Cranston RI
