Pay Range:

The base pay range for this position is

$28.71-$43.77 Hourly

however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Title: Dietitian

Department: Nutrition Therapy

Reports to: Director of Nutrition Therapy

Classification: Hourly

Position Overview:

Assesses, Recommends, and Implements strategies for nutritional care for outpatients and inpatient. Some telehealth and some in person; primarily outpatient focused. Rotating weekend on-call for hospital (every 4th weekend.)

Essential Functions:

  • Applies knowledge and current research information to deliver optimal nutrition care, including age-appropriate standards, utilizing validated assessment tools and evidence-based interventions, where available.

  • Uses the Nutrition Care Process (ADIME) approach to patient care and in EMR documentation.

  • Competent in the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam for adult patients and the application of findings to overall nutrition assessment and diagnosis.

  • Provides patient and family education related to nutritional therapy and incorporates best method of learning style and communication into sessions.

  • Identifies food and drug interactions and provides patient education in collaboration with pharmacy and nursing.

  • Applies state and national regulatory standards of nutritional care in the daily delivery of services.

  • Screens inpatients for nutritional risk and collaborates with Dietetic Technician for patient assessment/education/interventions.

  • Recommends and implements strategies for nutritional care in collaboration with other healthcare providers and participates in interdisciplinary teams, as appropriate.

  • Promotes positive staff interpersonal relationships.

  • Assumes accountability for own actions.

  • Documents nutritional assessment and progress in the patient's electronic medical record.

  • If outpatient, sends assessment and plan to referring MD.

  • Participates in continuous quality improvement/performance improvement projects of the department and the hospital, especially as related to medical nutrition therapy.

  • Participates in continuing departmental and hospital-wide education programs and seeks to stay abreast of current medical nutrition therapy research.

  • Involves fellow employees and the Nutrition Therapy Director in his/her performance evaluation to assess areas for improvement and excellence.

  • Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality.

  • Performs the functions of the position without daily supervision.

  • In collaboration with and as requested by the Nutrition Therapy Director;

  • Plans and presents nutrition in-services to department employees, as pertains to their work,

  • Provides nutrition education to other healthcare providers, patients, and/or patient support systems,

  • Develops and teaches community nutrition classes as needed, and

  • Procures or nutrition education material, as needed,

  • Serves as a preceptor to dietetic interns and new hires, as directed.

Required Education, Licensure, Certifications, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (graduation before 2024) or Master's degree (graduation 2024 forward) with required dietetic coursework from a program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) OR equivalent if completed outside the United States.

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

  • Certified Dietitian with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) within 60 days of hire.

  • Washington State Food Handlers permit within 30 days of hire.

  • Must maintain continued professional education requirements for the maintenance of registration status with the CDR and certification status with the Washington DOH.

Preferred Education, Certifications, & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or relevant field (or equivalent if completed outside the United States).

  • Two years of clinical experience (inpatient or outpatient).

  • One year of outpatient experience.

  • Licensed Dietitian with the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move about inside and outside of the office to guide clients to the nutrition counseling room, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and perform patient interviews and assessments in the patient's hospital room.

  • Occasionally moves/transports supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.

  • Frequent reaching/handling to obtain supplies, write reports, use computer and telephone.

  • Constant communication/exchange of information, observation, and inspection to perform nutrition assessment.

  • Constant communication and exchange of information for patient/client screening, care, and education.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Location: Inside.

  • Minimal risk of injury due to proximity of moving parts on computer printer, fax machine, and copier.

  • Minimal exposure to biohazardous materials.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel to other clinics.
