The Registered Dietician (RD) will report to the Senior Director of the Virtual Care Center and will work in partnership with the clinical team. This individual will be responsible for providing nutritional assessment and implementing a plan for nutritional care to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience, from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, and/or palliative care. The RD is responsible for providing assessment, counseling education, advocacy, and support programs to enhance patients' and families' ability to cope with nutritional problems.
This position requires collaborating with the virtual care center and partner multidisciplinary teams to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Core Responsibilities: Provides nutrition therapy and support to oncology patients from diagnosis to survivorship, including symptom management.
Plans nutritional care and counsels patients and families on nutritional requirements and meal-planning methods based on diagnosis, nutritional assessment, socio-economic background, psychosocial components, and patients' learning needs. Documents and communicates nutrition care plans through written and verbal systems ( i.e., EMR, discussion with multidisciplinary teams). Conducts individual and group classes for patients and caregivers. Maintains excellent rapport and effective working relationships with clinical staff in the virtual care center, patients and their families, oncology partners, and care teams.
Administrative Responsibilities: Assists in developing and implementing programmatic planning, standards of practice, and nutrition educational guidelines and materials. Assists in monitoring selected clinical key indicators and departmental audits.
Works with the Senior Director of the Virtual Care Center to establish and manage volume/productivity targets. Education, Licensure, and Experience Required: Education, Licensure and Experience:
Registered, licensed Dietitian Ability to get other state licenses as required Minimum of B.S. Degree in Nutrition or a related field Minimum of 3 years experience working with oncology patients in an outpatient setting and demonstrating proficiency in the nutritional management of cancer patients. CSO certification Professional Skills:
In-depth knowledge of metabolism, nutrition, oncology, and multiple treatment therapies (chemotherapy regimens, radiation treatments, etc.). Working knowledge of food composition and drug/nutrient interactions. A high level of interpersonal skills is required to provide effective nutrition counseling and education that facilitates behavior and attitude change in individuals of diverse backgrounds. Continued knowledge acquisition to remain abreast of scientific advances in oncology and the ability to incorporate new knowledge into a nutritional care plan.
