Summary:

The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) demonstrates excellent customer service performance and supports a work environment in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare, and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. This individual is a caregiver who provides technical and physician support to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and angiography procedures, according to the policies and procedures developed for Center for the Heart.

Responsibilities:

Monitors, records, and calculates patient EKG and hemodynamic status integral to invasive procedures.

Provides first line scrub duties for procedures.

Positions, sets factors, and operates x-ray equipment.

Prepares patients for procedures.

Obtains and documents pertinent clinical history, per protocol. Provides data collection and documents for procedures and patient care.

Uses proper technique in handling and transporting IVs, IVACs, oxygen, catheters, and other patient equipment.

Establishes hemostasis following procedures.

Transports patients to and from the lab.

Maintains radiographic equipment in efficient operating condition.

Maintains cleanliness and order in work area; obtains supplies and equipment as needed.

Maintains proficiency in all computer functionality necessary to perform job duties

Call required.

Overtime required as needed to complete cases in progress.

Responsible for monitoring cost/usage and making recommendations for cost reductions and standardizing equipment and supplies.

Assists Finance Department with departmental charges and pass through codes.

Investigates monthly budget variances in collaboration with the unit manager.

Seeks cost savings by standardizing equipment and supplies, monitoring usage to facilitate best pricing.

Collaborates with the manager to establish and monitor capital and operating budgets.

Ensures compliance with all regulations, departmental policies, agencies and Corporate Compliance.

Participates in the annual inventory of assigned area(s).

Serves collaboratively as a liaison between Materials Resource Utilization Specialists, Physicians, Clinicians, and Vendors to ensure that appropriate decisions are made regarding the purchase and application of equipment and supplies.

Collaborates with Cardiologists, Electrophysiologists, Materials Resource Utilization Specialists and Vendors to ensure special case needs are researched, acquired and expedited, as needed.

Reviews Cardiac Cath Lab and EP Lab schedules daily to identify possible equipment, supply and instrument needs in accordance with the current schedule.

Communicates with appropriate CVS staff the needs for each specific case, as necessary.

Updates inventory levels, as necessary.

Problem solves equipment resources/availability to facilitate caseload.

Utilizes current and historical data to evaluate and maintain par levels of critical items in CVS.

Maintains communication with department manager and coordinator regarding the progress of pending issues and identify areas of concern.

Serves as a resource to other departments, such as Clinical Engineering, to facilitate new equipment check, removal of existing equipment, and to communicate to departments any changes or discontinuance of products/equipment.

Provides input on new processes and technology to improve inventory management and services.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent

  • Associate Degree - accredited RCIS program

RCIS certification

Current BLS certification

ACLS Certification within 1 year of hire date

600 cardiac diagnostic/interventional procedures

1 year (2080 hours) Cardiac Cath Lab or EP Lab experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Ability to appropriately assess, care for and treat patients according to the age-appropriate guidelines as defined Covenant.

Demonstrates the ability to remain calm during high work volume. Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and prioritize departmental needs independently and effectively.

Demonstrates excellent customer service.

Knowledge of QSight and EPIC

In-depth knowledge of inventory management practices

Knowledge of sterile technique

Knowledge of CCL equipment

Knowledge of C-arm usage

Knowledge of ultrasound equipment usage

Computer background preferred

Strong knowledge of math/algebra (calculating percentages, ratios and averages) to assist manager in budget maintenance and preparation

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent eye-hand coordination

Independent judgement is required to prioritize tasks/projects and work without a significant amount of day-to-day supervision

Ability to decipher large amounts of information on an ongoing basis, using CVS schedules, supply usage history, Supply Chain inventory process, etc., to maintain par levels of critical items in CVS

Ability to function in a fast-paced "team" environment

Physical ability to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
