Job Description: Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)

Position definition: The Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) is a Professional Certification in behavior analysis. The RBT will provide clinical skills instruction and implement behavior reduction protocols using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to students with Autism and related developmental disabilities in the school setting. The RBT will collect and interpret data on programs, support parent and staff training, and assist the lead Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), lead Special Education Teacher, and ABA Interns with clinical assessments as needed. The RBT will be responsible for implementing the behavioral duties of the lead Special Education Teacher, BCBA, and ABA Interns in the temporary absence of these team members. The RBT must maintain certification with the Behavior Analytic Certification Board. Receive ongoing supervision by a qualified RBT supervisor, adhere to ethics, and renew RBT certification annually.

Supervision received: Receives overall direction from the Board Certified Behavior Analyst/ Autism Intervention Coordinator and lead Special Education Teacher.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide direct student care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.

  • Follow prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.

  • Follow and record data for prescribed toilet training protocols.

  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior.

  • Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with student's individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.

  • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress as instructed by the Special Education Teacher and Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

  • Utilize safe & appropriate handling procedures when working with students.

  • Maintain student confidentiality.

  • Assist Lead Special Education Teacher, Behavior Analysts, and ABA Interns with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.

  • Assist Lead Special Education Teacher, Behavior Analysts, and ABA Interns in preparing student materials as instructed.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment.

  • Assume Lead Behavioral Technician responsibilities in their absence.

  • Collaborate with a treatment team including students, parents and caregivers, outside professionals, Lead Behavioral Analyst, ABA Interns, and co-workers.

  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required training sessions. Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standards.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, supervisors, and community members.

  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

  • Commitment to maintain student confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA laws.

  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols and written plans.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance with regard to clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up.

Basic & Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to lift and carry students with adaptive equipment.

  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.

  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior.

  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.

  • Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.

  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.

  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree and RBT certification.

  • Preferred: Master's degree in Psychology, Education, or Applied Behavior Analysis.

Terms of Employment:

10-month Personal Contract, 35 hours per week, salary range: $24-26 per hour.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job to be evaluated by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst/ Autism Intervention Coordinator and Special Education Teacher on action goals established and the criteria for evaluating the accomplishments of the established goals, as well as performance of fundamental job responsibilities.
