Role Description: Huitt-Zollars' Portland, OR office is seeking a Licensed Architect for a full-time position. With a focus on innovative solutions and a client-centric approach, we collaborate closely with stakeholders to create environments that inspire learning, foster community engagement, and promote progress. Our expertise in institutional architecture spans decades and a diverse range of projects, from schools and universities to government buildings, reflecting our commitment to excellence and service to the public good.

As a Licensed Architect, you will be responsible for managing and delivery of multiple projects concurrently. In your role you will be responsible for leading day-to-day coordination, documentation, and continual project development and adhering to design standards and client requirements, being in constant collaboration with the design team disciplines throughout the design process, collaborating with clients, and ensuring the successful execution of projects.

Duties:

  • Lead the execution of architectural projects for institutional projects (and possibly others) from concept to completion: Take charge of overseeing the entire lifecycle of architectural projects, ensuring seamless execution and delivery within established timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to develop project objectives: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory standards: Regularly visit project sites to assess construction progress, address any issues or challenges, and ensure adherence to design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on architectural detailing, building codes, and design: Offer comprehensive technical support and guidance to project teams, leveraging expertise in architectural detailing, building codes, and design principles to drive project success.
  • Mentor junior staff members and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment: Act as a mentor and resource for junior team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support to facilitate their professional growth and development.
  • Maintain clear and concise project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and correspondence: Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of project-related information, including drawings, specifications, contracts, and correspondence, to facilitate effective project management and communication.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met and expectations are exceeded: Establish and maintain open lines of communication with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, addressing concerns, and managing expectations to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients
  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture Degree
  • Professional Licensure - State of Oregon or NCARB certified and able to obtain licensure through reciprocity
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IDP).
  • Advanced familiarity with sustainability principles, integrated design, and LEED guidelines. LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of codes and the ability to research and incorporate into documents.
  • Thorough understanding of the Construction Administration Process.
  • Proficiency in Revit is essential.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and visualization software, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, SkecthUp.
  • Preferred proficiency in graphic design software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Proven capability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively.

Physical Requirements:
