Job Description

SompoRe is seeking a Regional/Multiline Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter [VP] for our Regional/Multiline Treaty Reinsurance Team. The position will work closely with the team to execute core underwriting functions, supporting the achievement of the unit's overall financial strategy and goals. This position will be accountable for underwriting new and renewal business focused on property and casualty treaties, building and maintaining productive relationships with regional clients and brokers and consistently achieving budgeted financial results.

This individual will contribute to the overall regional/multiline reinsurance portfolio.

The position reports to SVP, Head of Regional/Multiline Treaty Reinsurance and is based out of our New York City, NY location. Would consider other SompoRe offices as well such as Garden City, NY, Purchase, NY and Morristown, NJ.

Responsibilities include:

Underwriting:

  • Develop and manage underwriting of regional/multiline treaty business.

  • Develop and maintain long-term strategic business relationships with brokers and cedants within the segment to drive new business opportunities as well as continually prospects for new opportunities.

  • Partner with actuarial team to price accounts.

  • Service renewal accounts within the segment on a timely basis, attaining service timeliness standards for this business and achieving planned renewal retention goals as well as conduct pre-renewal audits and presentations throughout the year.

  • Continuously develop marketing contacts and strengthen client relationships along with broker networks. Attend annual industry conferences (i.e.. NAMIC) and proactively plan active travel calendar.

  • Partner with the Claims department to maximize internal communication and customer service with respect to account management.

  • Utilize internal resources to provide highest level of value added to customer and top tier prospects.

  • Other duties as required by management.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Min 8 years of demonstrated success in a comparable P&C treaty underwriting role, preferably within reinsurance treaty broker market.

  • Industry Knowledge: Understands the local insurance marketplace, industry business operations, critical issues and financial drivers that affect the business unit; ability to apply that understanding to the marketing plan, pricing strategy and underwriting strategy.

  • Product Knowledge: Knowledge of property and casualty products/coverages and pricing and the linkages to strategy and can easily explain them to others.

  • Exceptional relationship skills, strong communication, analytical, organizational and leadership skills with interest in regional clients a strong plus.

  • Ability to work independently and work as part of a high performing team; team player.

  • Ability to prioritize and eager to learn.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including claims & actuarial.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $270,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
