Description: The Regional Simulation Associate Manager is responsible for providing support and assistance to the Manager for the daily operations of the Regional Simulation Program, including staff supervision and developing, coordinating and integrating educational, consultative, evidence-based practice, and research functions via simulation activities throughout the KPNW Region. Manages the Simulation Program in the absence of the Manager.
Improves clinical practice through simulation and implementation of standards, evidence-based practice, systems assessment and consultation. Analyses data to determine risk and deficiencies in competence in individual practice or groups.
Identifies high risk, problem prone, changed or new equipment and differentiates between performance/systems issues versus development needs. Incorporates research and/or evidence based learning into educational activities and practice. Serves as consultant to develop simulation based training plans; participates in review of research and/or evidence based practices.
Develops broad based simulation activities to meet training requirements to meet these objectives in both in-patient and out-patient settings throughout the NW Region. Takes a pro-active approach to identifying and implementing the use of simulation to improve member outcomes and satisfaction. Monitors and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of care delivered to members in the acute care setting.
Uses simulation and participant directed reflective debriefing to identify opportunities for improvement. Oversees follow up of identified opportunities to responsible parties. Assists Manager with recruitment and hiring of staff, provides input to managers about performance of peers and colleagues. Provides leadership and direction in support of the organization and department goals and objectives.
Provides the initiative and leadership in strategic planning to achieve departmental and clinical specialty goals and objectives, integrating simulation to enhance learning, knowledge retention, identify opportunities for process and system improvements. Collaborates with Simulation Manager, physician director, nurse manager and healthcare teams to ensure that regulatory compliance standards are met.
Independently prioritizes and supervises the daily work of the Simulation Operation Specialists, including assigning duties and scheduling and evaluating performance of direct reports. Collaborates to create orientation and training for new simulation employees.
Organizes regional education and orientation programs to support career development. Evaluates development, organization and presentation of simulation courses and provides feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Maintains current knowledge of simulation theory, practice and simulation equipment operation. Models professionalism and integrity.
Mentors peers and colleagues. Acts as a role model for ongoing professional development. Maintains clinical expertise through self-evaluation, peer review, and continuing education. Pursues certification in Nursing Professional Development and clinical specialty practice.
Other duties as assigned, including represents the KP Simulation Center within KP and in the community.
Performs other duties as requested.
Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in last seven (7) years.
Minimum two (2) years of leadership/education/management experience.
BSN or bachelor's degree in healthcare field
License, Certification, Registration
Current Oregon or Washington RN license in state where assigned required upon hire/transfer
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of hire/transfer
Project management experience
Simulation Foundations course or equivalent
Knowledge of current regulations/standards of practice (JCAHO, OSBN)
Customer-focused service skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Minimum two (2) years of management or supervisory experience
