Waste Pro Louisiana is Hiring a Regional Safety Manager - Hazardous Waste

The Regional Hazardous Waste Safety Manager (RHWSM) is responsible for providing regional, divisional, and workplace hazardous waste safety leadership focused on compliance with all Federal, State, DOT, EPA, NIOSH, and OSHA regulations. This position will strive to promote and deliver safety vigilance that meets Waste Pro's uncompromising commitment to providing and proactively ensuring hazard free workplaces. The Regional Hazardous Waste Safety Manager will provide safety direction, company/regulatory compliance, procedural training, safe practices enforcement, and required risk management leadership across a regional territory within multiple site locations/environments specific to the Waste Industry. Overall, the RHWSM will develop and promote strategies in partnership with the Corporate Safety leader aimed at proactively mitigating risk, driving continuous improvement, and making loss control enhancements. The RHWSM will function as liaison between corporate, region, and division operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive hazardous waste management plans and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.

  • Conduct regular inspections of hazardous waste storage areas and work sites to identify and address potential safety hazards.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to personnel involved in the handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Coordinate with external agencies, such as regulatory authorities and hazardous waste disposal facilities, to ensure proper waste management practices are followed.

  • Monitor and evaluate hazardous waste management practices, procedures, and equipment to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions.

  • Conduct training sessions for employees to promote awareness and understanding of hazardous waste management protocols and best practices.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all hazardous waste management activities, including waste inventories, disposal manifests, and regulatory reports.

  • Participate in emergency response activities and provide guidance on appropriate actions to mitigate risks associated with hazardous materials incidents.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to hazardous waste management to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to hazardous waste management to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.

  • Completes quarterly safety review and shares report of findings with RVP and associated management team. This performance findings/scorecard includes Incidents (#/type), Investigations, Accident Frequencies, Road Observations, Risk/Loss Data, WC Claims, Mitigation Strategies, etc.).

  • Manages, delivers and tracks training safety sessions for preparedness as it relates to hazard communication, driver safety, and fall protection, machine guarding, hearing and overall personal protective safety.

  • Generates OSHA300's for regional operations and ensuring corporate rollup of data and proper posting on annual basis.

  • Oversees MVR and regulatory/statutory filing protocol.

  • Oversees drug testing program including regulated collection and proper chain of custody processing of samples.

  • Implements effective safety communication plans using various multi-media methods.

  • Actively participates in the new hire, selection, on-boarding, orientation and training processes.

  • Holds regional accountability in partnership with RVP for shaping and developing a high-performance hazardous waste and safety culture that shows a positive record of continuous improvement.

  • Reviews trends and keeps current regarding technical, statutory, and regulatory legislation, policies, procedures and related business issues.

  • Maintains required safety training, DOT and other related files and records.

  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employees in this job classification must attend and participate in corporation sponsored training courses as assigned.

  • Employees in this job classification are responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Waste Pro .

  • Any additional job duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS Degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Services, Occupational Safety/Engineering or other related field (equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Requires 8+ years of progressive hands-on Occupational Health, Hazardous Waste Management, Safety, Business Continuity Planning and Loss-Control.

  • 5-7 years of domain experience within the Waste Management/Environmental Services industry.

  • Must have a valid HAZWOPER certificate and one of the following specialty certifications (e.g. OSHA10, OSHA30, CSD, or CSP).

  • Subject matter expertise with state/federal regulations and associated standards (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, NFPA, ANSI).

  • Must have 5 years' experience in keeping detailed and accurate records in a safety environment.

  • Must have 5 years' experience in reading and interpreting federal, state and local safety and hazardous waste regulations.

  • Experience recognizing, evaluating, and recommending controls for operational hazards as well as work related injury and illness.

  • Solid project management, oral and written communication skills.

  • High degree of autonomy, yet team oriented with ability to work cross-functionally within a matrix organization.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and foster a compliant safety-first culture.

  • Ability to manage dynamic situations requiring a well-developed sense of meeting tactical priorities.

  • Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment; Microsoft Office, Outlook.

  • Strong planning/organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.

  • Travel 60% travel; must be available for 24/7 emergency calls.

  • Will need to function in diversity of settings that include facilities, equipment yards, landfills, recycling centers, and transfer stations, residential and commercial areas.

  • Able to climb in and out of equipment.

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Can read and interpret a variety of simple to complex reports (e.g. Vehicle Condition Reports) for clarification of problems and implementation of preventive mitigation techniques.
