The Regional Safety Manager is responsible to provide ongoing Health and Safety (H&S) support to site leadership and operating teams within the designated Region. This position will be responsible for managing a team of Regional Safety Engineers (RSE) for all Data Centers in the Americas East region. This includes ensuring that a safe and healthful working environment is achieved by identifying risks and unsafe practices, leading continuous improvement initiatives, coordinating cross functionally with key stakeholders and providing leadership to the Regional Safety Engineers in the cluster.
The Regional Safety Managers leads a group of RSEs who are located throughout the region and working in our Data Centers. The Regional Safety Manager will also partner with cluster leadership in InfraOps to achieve regional consistency around H&S execution and ensuring Amazon performs to all H&S standards and requirements.
This role will report to the Sr. Manager Global Health and Safety and will be based in Northern VA.
Coordinates all H&S initiatives and programs for the region
Supports and promotes safe practices in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
Provide training and coaching to local RSEs to ensure technical competence and leadership development across the region
Creates a positive partnership with regional InfraOps Leadership and serves as point of contact and escalation for safety related matters
Conduct H&S audits and assessments of on-going operations to measure compliance with regulatory requirements and conformance to company policies
Act as the representative for Unannounced Government Visits (OSHA, EPA or other State and Federal regulatory agencies) and address any issues that may arise on a site level for that region
Conducts pre-operational risk assessments on tasks and implement risk mitigation measures within the region
Evaluates SOPs and MOPs for appropriate H&S controls
Assists in the investigation of the root cause H&S complaints put forward by InfraOps leaders, members, customers and contractors
Follows up to ensure that corrective actions are implemented where necessary and ensures that any certification requirements are in compliance
Assists in the coordination in the investigation of accidents and near misses; reviews and analyzes these accidents and near miss incidents and make corrective action recommendations working together with RSEs
Oversees safety performance metrics reporting and communication
Assists regional InfraOps leadership in communication, training, and execution of the Safety Management System (SMS)
Ensures compliance with national, regional and/or local H&S regulations
Ensures compliance to Safety programs such as Lockout Takeout, Fall Protection, Fire Prevention, Emergency Procedures and Evacuation and other such programs for each DC
Develops and implements training programs to meet the needs of InfraOps customers
