The Role
The regional safety coordinator for OWL Services is responsible for supporting corporate safety direction, implementing best practices and measuring performance and adherence to these policies and programs in the service, construction and facility operations. This position will report to the Regional Vice President as well as have reporting lines to the Corporate Safety Director. This individual will be responsible for the geographic region or trade division for OWL Services. This is an in office position in Bloomfield CT; must be local. There will also be 15% travel required throughout the CT/NH/NJ area.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct worksite audits to identify potential risks and ensure regulatory compliance
Assist in developing and implementing strategies to reduce or eliminate risk
Review completed audits by field team leaders
Participate in coaching/driving field team leaders for safety engagement
Promote safety awareness through communications, training, presenting to co-workers
Remain up to date with regulatory changes and update SOPs as needed
Perform investigations on workplace accidents and complaints
Delivering corrective action course to employees or managers of employees who violate safety protocol
Participate in corporate safety meetings with other regional safety professionals and leadership at times.
Track and communicate KPI's (TRIR, DART, leading indicators etc.)
Handle recordkeeping requirements for your region or division
Lead monthly safety committee meetings
Produce and deliver tailgate discussions/toolbox talks to the front line workers
Report/file claims for work related injuries, manage claims and make recommendations for return to work/light duty offerings
Qualifications
Must have minimum 1 year of experience as a construction safety coordinator.
Knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926
Ability to work with others - Frontline management through field staff
Ability to present information to small groups
Willingness to learn and be part of a dynamically growing company
Flexibility in your schedule to meet the needs of the field
Detail oriented and consistent
Willingness and ability to pivot and think critically
Must be able to build influential relationships with field staff
Must be willing to travel locally and overnight stays
Time Management
Must have a clean driving record and valid drivers license.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, etc. (preferred)
Must be self-motivated
Must be able to deliver safety content in classroom and field settings
Must be able to partner with field staff to deliver results
Must have minimum 1 year of previous experience as a construction safety coordinator.
Physical Requirements
Must have the physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
Must be able to drive a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
Must be able to sit at a desk for an extended length of time.
