Responsible for the pick up, transport, and delivery of freight by driving a diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination and performing Freight Handler duties on a temporary basis at a service center that is not the associate's permanent location. The frequency of performance of P&D Driver and Freight Handler duties will vary depending upon assigned location.
The temporary assignment to this position is for a 6-month time period. Upon successful completion, the associate will receive additional compensation in the form of paid time off and/or bonus.
Must be at least 22 years of age. Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend the English language to perform the various tasks of the job, including but not limited to, communicating with co-workers and the general public; understanding verbal and written instruction, Company policies, and governmental regulations; responding to questions and inquiries from management and government representatives; and accurately completing various shipping papers, reports, and records required of the position.
Ability to accurately and efficiently perform the mathematical calculations necessary to do the work, including the counting of freight, collecting money for freight charges, and calculation of weight. Must have the mental ability to handle receipts, read road maps and signs, maintain logs, etc. Ability to operate scanning devices as required.
Must have the effective judgment necessary to perform the functions of the job, including but not limited to, handling the customers' freight safely and efficiently and communicating tactfully and diplomatically with individuals whom the associate will be in contact as a Company representative. Must have NO felony conviction for theft, larceny, or related offenses (unless consideration of felony convictions in hiring decisions is prohibited by state law). Must have NO conviction record indicating that the applicant cannot reasonably be expected to properly fulfill the duties of the job in question (unless consideration of felony convictions in hiring decisions is prohibited by state law). Must have a satisfactory past work record and must have demonstrated the ability to maintain good attendance. Ability to understand and utilize the methods, procedures, and techniques for loading and securing cargo in or on a vehicle and to determine if the cargo being transported has been properly located, distributed, and secured on or in a vehicle.
Ability to understand and implement safe, efficient freight handling and lifting procedures. Must be available to work all shifts. Must be available for around the clock trips to accommodate freight movements and must be able to be away from home for extended periods of time.
Working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems and detailed knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials. Ability to meet or exceed DOT medical standards. Ability to satisfactorily pass a drug test and satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable).
6 months driving experience Previous freight handling experience A High School Diploma or GED is required Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with HAZMAT, Tanker, and Twin Trailer Endorsements
