This role is responsible for providing guidance and direction to management of assigned regional facilities. The key objective of this position is to improve safety and efficiency of the regional facilities through development and growth of operations management.
They will be recognized as an expert in asset management. This includes keeping safety as the top priority and maintaining Viterra's assets in a safe, reliable, orderly, and sound manner. This position is one of problem solving, whether it be personnel, mechanical, grain quality, or logistics. They will utilize creative ways to find solutions to issues as they develop.
Position Responsibilities:
Work alongside and communicate with Commercial Manager, Director of Operations and EHS to make sound business decisions
Reviews and analyzes key business indicators and progress towards the achievement of business forecasts and operational objectives on a regular basis, and initiates action as required.
Communicate with locations to remain apprised of planning and direction of facility operations to support optimum utilization of machinery, materials, and labor to achieve peak capacity, yields and overall cost reduction
Share company direction and ensure that information is being passed from upper management to front line workers when appropriate and applicable
Provide safety leadership to their team to comply with all Federal, State and local regulations regarding occupational health and safety and environmental requirements
Build and motivate their team to improve quality, safety and cost performance
Analyzes capital requirements and provides recommendations regarding capital budget needs. Approves capital expenditures within approved budgets.
Coach, develop and evaluate talent throughout the region by challenging operations management to reach their full potential and grow the talent at their individual locations
Work with operations management across the assigned region to ensure plans for preventative maintenance are in place and being worked as needed by the facility to maintain safe and reliable operations
Monitoring inventory to maintain quality and leverage mix and blend opportunities to maximize total commodity yield
Assist in the planning for facility annual budget expenses and review expenses throughout the year to ensure plan adherence
Support operations management in the region in all aspects of facility operations (day to day operations, employee relations, talent development, grain quality, safety, etc.).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Business, Engineering and or Safety preferred
5-10 years of industry experience in a similar role or progressive development to this level required
Ability to travel up to 75% of the time
Previous experience in grain handling required
Proven ability to effectively, coach and develop employees at all levels
Ability to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements at facilities and develop plans for addressing
Dynamic, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office skills preferred
Strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking capabilities
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Exceptional collaboration, interpersonal and leadership abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
Union experience beneficial
Special Demands:
This role may periodically need to assist at various facilities as work requires it. Individual will be required in these times to meet the special demands of the operation and wear required protective equipment as the job entails.
Role requires up 75% travel this may include air and vehicle travel.
