Position Summary:

CertainTeed is creating a Manufacturing and Field employee focused HR team that will work cross group with the plants and field employees within specific geographic regions.

We are seeking Regional Managers to be the backbone of this team.

There will be 5 regions each having 8-12 plants; field employees (sales etc.) will be associated and supported by the plants closest to their home or remote office.

Being located within the region would be beneficial and a plus.

Relocation is not required.

The Regional Managers will focus on developing regional strategies and tactics to support each businesses goals and must win battles; driving organizational development, accountability and a strong focus on cultivating an engaging culture and positive employee experience.

The general regions are based on plant locations:

South Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas

Northeast North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts

North Central Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin

South Central Iowa, Missouri, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming

West Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington and California

Regions will be adjusted over time as the CertainTeed business footprint changes.

Manufacturing Organizational and Talent Development

  • Partner with regional business leaders to identify and prioritize key organizational capabilities, behaviors and processes needed to achieve business results.

  • Coaches and develops plants on the optimal use of WCM pillar tools to assess skill competency, analyze gaps and create plans to close gaps.

  • Conducts workforce planning, organizational assessments and reviews succession planning with plant leadership to create robust development, cross functional opportunities to reduce voluntary turnover. Regularly monitors progress to ensure plans are executed.

  • Collaborates with plant, HR and Operations leadership to identify internal and external resources to address gaps in skills and capabilities needed for the effective and efficient operation of the manufacturing and distribution operations.

  • Works with regional and business leadership to ensure appropriate funding for organizational & talent development with a solid ROI to achieve business goals.

Culture development and HR function leadership

  • Works with plants and leadership to understand HR KPI key drivers and critical path for continuous improvement to achieve business results.

  • Informs and coaches on corporate HR initiatives to align and if necessary adapt for region specific HR initiatives which promote an engaged culture where employees choose to use their discretionary time and effort to maximize business success.

  • Works with region to develop robust sourcing, recruiting and selection process to aggressively manage time to fill and cost to fill.

  • Collaborates with other regional managers to create and implement a manufacturing and field employee on-boarding and first week/month process which is energizing for new employees.

  • Collaborates with Corporate HR, MFG Recruiter and Purchasing to develop region specific temporary workforce programs which can adapt to meet market conditions to achieve business results.

  • Works across the groups to create and implement performance management systems and processes (annual reviews, one-on-one coaching, streamlined investigation templates and progressive behavior management programs) which reflect the culture, employee well-being and employee experience that make CertainTeed a great place to work.

  • Ensures cross plant training, optimal processing efficiency and business continuity support for operational HR duties (payroll, month end reporting, vacation coverage etc.) within the Region.

  • Works with corporate Total rewards and compensation team to understand wage and benefit structures within the region to ensure - competitive analysis job banding, skill and comp progression structures in all manufacturing and field functions, on-going market wage analysis to be used proactively for employee retention.

  • Collaborates with manufacturing leadership teams, to develop and implement minimum employee communications processes and systems which create a well informed and engaged workforce. (from local town hall meetings to pre-shift huddles, benefits enrollment, LiveWell, Safety and EHS days etc.)

  • Lead, support, develop region HR team - Develop short- and long-range objectives, challenging goals, workload balancing initiatives to ensure an engaged, agile and business impactful HR team within the region.

  • Identifies administrative non-value add HR work and collaborates with corporate or business leaders to automate, streamline or eliminate duties that add cost but no business, customer or employee value.

Safety/Incident Prevention, Process Development, and Management:

  • Ensures region wide proficiency and execution of Safety and employee absence programs including FMLA, STD, LTD, workers' compensation

  • Is an active participant in the SG/CT safety culture.

  • Advise and coach plant teams on resources to support S&H training and skill development by supporting the integration of the SG NA EHS Training Matrix.

  • Collaborates with plants and field employee organizations to integrate H&S behaviors and program participation into everyday processes and mindsets. Understands how to execute risk assessments, MOC (Management of Changes) and directs plants to the appropriate resources for execution questions.

  • Fully understands the SGC H&S standards and how they relate to creating a systemic plant safety culture.


  • BA/BS in related field.

  • At least 3-5 years' experience working in a manufacturing or high volume distribution operations facility.

  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.

  • Solid business acumen to support the translation of must-win battles into group wide regional and plant.

  • HR processes which will support the businesses in achieving results through an engaged and participatory workforce.

  • Good Safety and Workers Comp understanding, knows the SG Safety Standards. Some experience/exposure with OSHA requirements.

  • Experience working with both union and non-union workforces.

  • Experience in cultural, organizational performance, and talent development.

  • Experience with Staffing and Workforce Planning (short and long-term).

  • Effective conflict resolution and facilitation skills.

  • Advocate for team building, employee engagement, and leadership skill development.

  • Must be able to flex hours to support 24-7 operations.

  • Approximately 35% Travel.
