What you will do at Precinct One

Harris County - Commissioner Precinct One has an opening for a Regional Foreman in our Road & Bridge department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The selected candidate will be tasked with supervising the general operations and employees at a designated location.

  • The position provides technical and supervisory assistance to workers who perform various manual and semi-skilled tasks related to maintenance and construction on roads, parks, bridges, and vehicles.

  • You will assist the Regional Manager with various road maintenance, drainage, and mowing responsibilities on county road right-a-ways within Precinct One.

  • Experience with preparing yearly department budgets is essential as is monitoring supplies, tools, and equipment to ensure projects are completed within the designated timeframe and maintaining a safe working environment for employees.

  • This position is classified as an essential employee and is responsible for responding to emergencies and or disasters after hours and on weekends.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience leading staff in the operations of road, bridge, and vehicle maintenance

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications that could include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Licensure:

  • Commercial (Texas) Driver's License Class A or B
  • Must be able to pass a forklift certification course

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of best industry practices, asphalt, concrete and gutter machines.

  • Skilled at motivating a team that improves the employee experience and fosters a learning environment.

  • Skilled at work delegation and assignment of duties.

  • Skilled at operating various types of heavy equipment.

About the Road & Bridge Division

The Road & Bridge Subdivision's mission is to offer a responsive public service while executing a high level of maintenance on Precinct One roads, bridges, hike and bike trails, and county rights-of-way, to improve mobility and the quality of life for the constituents of Precinct One.

About Precinct One

There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.

With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.

Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex, the renowned Texas Medical Center, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston's main and downtown campuses, and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One is home to more than 20 county parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
