The Thermal Acoustical Solutions segment offers a full line of innovative engineered products to assist in noise and heat abatement within the automotive and industrial markets. The business manufactures acoustical damping and thermal insulating solutions comprised of fiber and metal based composite product constructions. These products are typically found in the interior (dash insulators), underbody (wheel well, fuel tank, exhaust) and under hood (engine compartment) of passenger vehicles, heavy duty trucks, recreational vehicles as well as in other industrial applications. The segment employs approximately ~1300 employees with operations in the U.S., Germany, France and China.

Job Summary:

Responsible for establishing the responsibilities and methods for the development, maintenance, and review of the site's quality system to ensure its continuing suitability and effectiveness in meeting the requirements of applicable quality standards. Manages all aspects of the quality system(s) to assure continuing compliance and strong continuous improvement. This position will work closely with suppliers, employees at all levels, customers and third party auditors. Continuous Improvement is to be a central approach to all aspects of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs the supervision of the employees and activities of all Quality Department personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response to quality issues, always maintaining open communication and professionalism with other departments for maximum efficiency.

  • Confers with other members of management personnel, subordinate members of supervision, and general workforce to establish and follow production and quality control standards, develop budgets and cost control measures.

  • Directs plant-wide Quality certification efforts including the writing, review, approval and distribution of the quality system policy manuals, system procedures, and work instructions.

  • Serves as the liaison between the company and customers for resolution of quality problems and overall goodwill.

  • Supports the Engineering Department by actively participating APQP, new product launches, and engineering change requests.

  • Supports the Manufacturing and Shipping departments by providing quality auditors on the production floor to assist with quality issues, gauge and fixture control and maintenance, work instructions, etc.

  • Responsible for facility-wide employee training in Quality certification requirements.

  • Oversee the review and analysis of production, quality, maintenance, and other appropriate operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and/or operational or production problems.

  • Manages the handling of customer complaints and ensures all appropriate corrective actions are taken and followed through to completion.

  • Develops and follows Tactical/Strategic Plans as set forth by the Regional Director of Operations.

  • Plans for and suggests ideas for the optimum utilization of equipment, personnel, and supplies to achieve departmental objectives in the most cost effective manner possible.

  • Maintains knowledge of, supports, administers and ensures compliance with all company policies.

  • Interviews and selects applicants for the department in accordance with applicable laws. Ensures new employees in the department are appropriately trained.

  • Responsible for ensuring timely input of information into the time and attendance system to assist Payroll in the preparation of the hourly payroll.

  • Conducts annual performance reviews for employees in the department, completes the review form and makes recommendations for rate increases. Recommends wage adjustments, promotions, demotions, terminations, layoff, etc.

  • Recommends and takes corrective action in compliance with quality audits, issues, etc.

  • Serves as the management representative for IATF 16949:2016.

  • Represents the voice of the customer. This includes setting quality objectives and related training and corrective and preventive actions

  • Must be knowledgeable in the effective use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and concepts to assist in process improvements, both within Lydall, and externally at our customers/suppliers. Serve as an active participant in LSS programs that promote continuous improvement.

  • Will actively engage in Lean Management by encouraging, teaching, participating in, and supporting the Lean Six Sigma culture and tools.

  • Must adhere to all company and location policies and safety rules

  • Must be able to work extended hours when required

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

(If a degree is required it must be from an accredited institution)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • 8-10 years progressive experience in Quality or related areas including a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience required

  • Computer literate. Microsoft Office proficiency required.

  • Experience with the implementation of standards and procedures required to achieve and maintain automotive industry quality certifications (i.e. QS, TS 16949, IATF 16949:2016, etc.)

  • Knowledge of multiple problem-solving methods (i.e. Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiment, etc.)

  • Knowledge of GD&T a plus.

  • Experience with external customer and supplier relationships required

  • Experience with the "Big 3" (Ford, Chrysler, General Motors) required

  • Experience with APQP and PPAP processes required

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to organize, manage and control workflow and ability to meet deadlines

  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification

  • Ability to deliver presentations to audiences at all levels

  • Formal project management training

  • Strong financial acumen

Job Summary: The Quality Support I position will assist the quality engineering group to support the manufacturing operations. Assigned quality technicians will work under the direction of Director of Quality and Quality Support I. This role will help to provide oversight on the floor to aid in quality system effectiveness for manufacturing. Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide guidance and assistance to quality technicians and manufacturing personnel regarding product quality. * Manage daily activity to ensure quality checks are performed to schedule and findings are noted and addressed with production team for timely resolution. * Assists with root cause / corrective action investigations where assigned. Assembles teams, schedules, conducts reviews of documentation, and submits completed reports to quality engineering in a timely manner. * Assist with trials production runs when scheduled, noting observations and findings. * Assist with statistical process control data collections and maintenance of files. Compiles reports as scheduled. * Conducts specific quality training as directed by management. * Assist production with containment activities per Lydall procedure, including disposition. * Post advisories, corrective actions, and containment activities. Investigation and resolution of customer concerns. * Must be 8D team contributor for the following: assist in identifying root cause(s), permanent corrective action and preventative measures (mistake/error-proofing). * Perform die release and gage verification. * Perform product audits, dock audits, and layered process audits. * Release reviewed suspect material for production. * Alert the shift manager of nonconforming raw material and follow Nonconforming Material Procedure. * Maintain and update quality metrics on production cell and quality communication boards within manufacturing cells. * Assist in quarterly inventory counts. * Serve as an active participant in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) programs that promote continuous improvement.
