About the Position:

This position is responsible for innovative and data-driven recruitment of prospective undergraduate students in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and other assigned locations. This position entails relationship building and communication with high school counselors, students, families and alumni; effectively extolling SMU, its brand and attributes to constituents; application file review; participation/planning of on- and off- campus events. Responsibilities include seeing students from inquiry to evaluating their admission applications in assigned territories and participating in Admission Committee to make final decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategically manage the recruitment efforts in assigned geographic territories, including a recruitment and marketing plan, and produce status reports. Identify qualified students through high school visits, student meetings (virtual and in-person, college fairs, workshops, and direct mail follow up.)

  • Evaluate applicant files for admission and scholarship. Monitor students' progress from inquiry stage through initial enrollment.

  • Participate in event planning and related recruitment projects in assigned territories and on the SMU Dallas campus.

  • In-depth market analysis and progress reports.

  • Establish and maintain college counselor contacts through meetings, workshops, events, school visits, etc.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required for this position; a Master's degree is preferred.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience is required.

Previous college admission or related regional admission or college counseling work experience required, preferably at a residential not-for-profit, selective college or university; experience in high school counseling considered but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate should have significant demonstrated knowledge of admission and recruitment practices and demonstrated ability to use quantitative and observational data to analyze a problem and recommend solutions.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Knowledge and familiarity of CRM systems desirable.

Candidate must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and have the ability to drive evenings and nighttime.
