This individual provides PLC troubleshooting and programming support to PQ's North American plants with a focus on East Coast plant locations. Also performs electrical engineering design for plant and project instrumentation, process control and power systems.

Scope

Number of direct reports: none

E&I design of manufacturing plants: $0.5-3.0m

Management of capital projects: $0.5-3.0m

Typical number of simultaneous projects/trials: 3-5

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Program using the full range of Rockwell software PLC products, including FTView, RSLogix, RSLinx, and other comparable HMI and ladder logic programs, such as Siemens and GE Fanuc/Cimplicity.

  • Troubleshoot equipment links between the PLC and Motor Control Centers (MCC), including variable frequency drives (VFD) using hard-wire and network communications including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet and other legacy communication protocols.

  • Troubleshoot network systems, switches, and cabling.

  • Experience with server based software HMI systems with thick clients and thin clients.

  • Independently manage work requests from numerous plant sites, prioritize, and provide first class customer service, with the customer being the plants.

  • Provide written operating procedures as required, as well as weekly update reports on project progress.

  • Troubleshoot higher level problems with plant instruments and transmitters. Knowledgeable to make recommendations for improved instrumentation.

  • Lead startup commissioning teams to systematically perform field device checkouts. Able to effectively report findings to management or contractors.

  • Experience installing Rockwell and other process control software on Windows 10 Operating Systems.

  • Manage engineering contractors and electricians during design and construction phases to ensure quality work that meets PQ's requirements

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and requirements.

  • Comply with company policies.

  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

BS in Electrical, Electronics Technology, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.

Five-plus (5+) years' experience in PLC programming

Thorough knowledge of chemical/industrial plant instrumentation.

Working knowledge of applicable regulatory codes including NEC, NFPA, etc.

Essential

Knowledge of power distribution systems and electrical safety practices including Arc/Flash safety and LOTO.

Plant experience as controls engineer or instrument technician.

Essential

Experience with electrical panel layout, wiring, and AutoCad.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word).

Essential

Working knowledge of applicable regulatory codes including NEC, NFPA, etc.

Desirable

Develop project requirements, scopes of work and budget estimates, including project justification documents.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with various plant and corporate teams.

Make effective verbal and written presentations to audiences ranging from hourly maintenance staff to senior management.

Communicates, promotes and personally demonstrates Safety/Health (including PQP Principles) as #1 priority.

Participation in risk assessment audits as applicable.

Understand PQ Principles (PQP) and how they are implemented in the site organization, rules and procedures.

Special Factors

  • This role is based in a chemical manufacturing plant that typically operates 24/7)

  • Will involve approximately 30-40% travel to support PQ plants across the US.

  • Customary work hours

  • 7 am

  • 4pm or as needed to achieve business objectives
