Regional Census Coordinator

Faith in the Valley is seeking a Regional Census to join our talented and diverse staff team in the Northern Central Valley. The 2020 Census represents a pivotal moment for our Central Valley to be fully counted and receive the funding and representation we need and deserve. The Regional Census Coordinator will lead our efforts to have thousands of conversations through our congregations and door-to-door leading up to and through the official Census count process.

The Organization :

Faith in the Valley is a multi-faith, multi-racial coalition of congregations and organizations working towards a more racially and economically just, compassionate, equitable, and thriving California Central Valley, from San Joaquin to Kern County. We have a vision for the Central Valley that embraces human dignity, values the full participation of every human being, and promotes the health, safety, and economic security of people across the Valley. Therefore, we are building local, county-wide, and regional power to disrupt systems of oppression, and advance a multi-issue agenda that is fundamentally about shifting the politics and the economy of the Central Valley in ways that make life better for all people.

Faith in the Valley does this through an organizing process that develops local leadership and conducts research on how to have our collective voices heard by holding those in positions of power and authority accountable for serving the common good. We do this out of our faith - different faiths, but united in how it compels us to fight for justice, dignity, and opportunity.

Census Campaign and Role :

With so many of the issues that Faith in the Valley works to address every day from housing to health care to community investment along with the heightened fears in many of our immigrant and vulnerable communities, the threat of an undercount here is very real and serious. For every individual who goes uncounted in the Census, it is estimated that our counties lose out on roughly $20,000 in funding over 10 years.

Because of this, and knowing that the central role that so many of our congregations play in our communities, we are embarking on a campaign to educate and gain commitments from thousands of community members across dozens of our congregations. Starting later this year and in the first quarter of 2020, canvassers will also go door-to-door to raise awareness and secure commitments to get counted.

The Regional Census Coordinator will work with our county chapters in San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced chapters, to ensure a comprehensive Census Outreach plan, work with organizers in each county to execute and lead teams of canvassers on the ground.

Work with Faith in the valley and state (PICO CA) team to develop creation of census materials and messaging aimed at faith communities and hard-to-reach constituencies.
Work collaboratively with Region 4 ACBO coalition partners on coordinated events, strategies, events and geographies.
