Leads the team responsible for selling our Point of Care products and services (primarily CoaguChek and cobas Liat) to strategic accounts and distributors in the West Region. Manages a defined sales region to achieve sales and financial targets in accordance with the company's strategic goals. Manages a staff of Account Executives and participates in the establishment of sales and financial goals for a given region, designing and ensuring implementation of sales plans to achieve these goals. Responsible for hiring, terminating and implementing disciplinary decisions affecting employees. Interacts with sales leadership to communicate sales performance in territory, and cooperates with Marketing to implement promotional strategies and to monitor competitor's activities.

Assist the Director or senior leadership in overall operations of assigned department(s). Contributes and achieves results through the management of subordinates (professional and support staff). Establishes and manages the department's budget and all assigned resources. Provides leadership to ensure department objectives and goals are achieved. Directs and implements tactical plans. Has full discretion on all employment decisions for department staff including hiring, training, performance management, and progressive disciplinary actions.

Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions.

The Regional Business Manager:

  • Selects, trains, and provides ongoing feedback to direct reports via direct observation, meetings, and evaluations.

  • Assumes a leadership role in establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with key high value customers to continually enhance overall revenues.

  • Promotes cross-divisional communication, strategy, and tactical planning to maximize revenue generation.

  • Understands market conditions and trends, develops long term strategies, and provides recommendations to high level management which may include the creation and delivery of presentations.

  • Contributes and provides information to management regarding probability of sales, emerging customer issues, and competitor data as observed in area of responsibility. May also be required to provide reports to management summarizing various types of information (i.e. territory forecast, product recall, customer issues).

  • Provides necessary administrative reports while overseeing budgets and expenses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years relevant sales or equivalent experience with demonstrated success

  • 1-2 years' management or equivalent leadership experience with demonstrated strong competency and proven track record in sales management and leadership

  • Relevant experience working with Distribution to sell lab diagnostics

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including making impactful presentations

  • Negotiation, contracting and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work within a regulated environment

  • Strategic planning and organizational skills

  • High levels of sales proficiency and/or industry specific experience

Compensation Grade: G.SD110 * Job Description Summary Manages a territory of Nationwide commercially focused distribution points from a field location. Responsible for profitable small commercial growth in their controlled territory through the management and development of assigned agencies. Accountable for driving strong results in the form of profitable quote flow through single dedication to Small Market Commercial Lines. Partners with PL and MM sales and underwriting teams to identify opportunities and develop growth and profit strategies. Leads and influences agents through creation of sales strategies and implementation of sales practices that further new sales and increase shelf space, profit and customer retention. Job Description Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Small Mkt Bsns Dvlpmt-CL; no direct reports. Core Duties and Responsibilities: * Monitors market conditions, competitive landscape, and confirms information gathered within market space. Using territory results, market intelligence, competitor products, and rates to identify small commercial growth opportunities for the agencies. Reviews and assesses agency strengths, capabilities and growth opportunities. * Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports accordingly. May review agency books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans. * Effectively communicates with agencies to establish the company as the provider of choice for the territory for all enterprise products with an emphasis on commercial lines. Communicates product, technology changes and company objectives. Communicates market intelligence to agencies and leadership. Communicates and collaborates actively with team members and leadership to share industry trends, and field underwriting experience. * Responsible for attainment of Small Market Commercial production, profit, and service objectives within assigned territory. Drives robust agency business planning to deliver detailed performance plans with actions, account abilities and scheduled performance checkpoints. Ensures strong territorial objectives to maximize profit and pipeline management. Proactively identifies opportunities for all lines of business and refers to appropriate business leaders. Plans and coordinates the efforts with the Middle Market Underwriting Team. * Proactively consults with agents and internal partners to develop business solutions including strategic and tactical planning. Shares understanding of organizational capabilities and opportunities to drive maximum value of relationships. Consults regarding the appetite, acceptability, terms, conditions, pricing and sales techniques. Provides industry trend observations to leadership. * Recommends appointment of new agencies. Makes recommendations to terminate agencies based on results as appropriate depending on contract. Ensures compliance with administrative practices and adherence to policies and procedures. Influences agency business plans and practices necessary to achieve results. Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Undergraduate studies in general business, insurance, sales, marketing or related fields. Undergraduate degree preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Relevant professional designation such as CPCU or CIC is preferred. Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible underwriting and sales experience in commercial lines of business preferred. Expertise in markets consistent with our underwriting appetite and product portfolio preferred. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Thorough working knowledge of commercial underwriting, pricing and coverage for Small Market business.
