Position Available: Year Round Hourly Rate or Pay Range: $55,000 annually Application Deadline: Position open until filled.
The Northland College admissions counselor will represent the College and its programs to prospective students, their families, high school guidance counselors, and teachers through on- and off-campus visits, phone calls, and special events. They will be responsible for managing a territory and being proactive in developing relationships that lead to successful recruitment of Northland students. Extensive travel in the fall and spring with some weekends is required. Preference will be given to candidates in the Chicago, Illinois; Madison, Wisconsin; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; or Minneapolis, Minnesota, areas.

Primary Functions and Duties
Counseling and recruiting students in a manner that respects the integrity and best interests of the students while effectively recruiting appropriate students for the College
Develop and maintain a full working knowledge of the College and effectively communicate that knowledge to students
Understand professional roles and responsibilities that provide for the proper treatment and successful recruitment of students
Inform and counsel students regarding: the admission process, financial aid opportunities and processes, academic programs, campus life, student services, career opportunities, and other facets of the college selection process
Read applications and recommend decisions within admission and scholarship criteria
Focused counseling and recruiting of students within an assigned geographic region
Travel throughout the regional market regularly throughout the calendar year, attending approximately 60 college fairs, 150 high school visits, and 40 high school athletic events or science nights
Assist in regional travel outside of the regional territory throughout the academic year
Return to campus for staff retreats, admissions events, and other required training sessions
Assume responsibility for effectively scheduling travel and telephone contact with students in the territory using information available in the admission file and advice and training provided by the office staff
Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities in territory
Be prepared to accept responsibility for special projects
When on campus, particularly during summer months, special assignments may be made in areas such as developing publications, marketing research, preparing displays and other promotional materials, establishing computer and communication systems which enhance operational productivity, etc.
Participate in various College committees as requested
Full participation in annual planning retreats
Other duties as assigned
Performance Standards
Developing and maintaining a thorough, detailed, and accurate knowledge of College structures, programs, and services, and promoting these services to prospective students and other stakeholders
Developing and maintaining positive, collaborative working relationships with other division and College staff
Handling sensitive and confidential information in a business-like manner
Projecting and maintaining a positive, professional image of the College when meeting or talking with students or other outside contacts
Assisting others, as necessary, in keeping work current, meeting deadlines, or spreading workloads equitably
Prioritizing work activities to complete assignments by expected deadlines and to make the most effective use of available time
This includes meeting expressed goals that are agreed to at the beginning of each academic year
Willingness to travel extensively, often working beyond the normal 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. day and Monday to Friday week
Ability to work with a high degree of independence within institutional and division policies, procedures, and performance guidelines
Ability to produce accurate quantitative reports for work done in assigned territory
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Strong human relation and interpersonal communication skills
Must be comfortable with extensive travel, mostly while driving an automobile
Must have sound organizational and personal management skills
Must have and retain a valid driver's license, meet Northland College driving standards, and clear a formal background check
