A Day in the Life

Reporting to the Area Vice President, the Regional Manager manages all sales activity for Medtronic ILS'

products and services within an assigned region through a direct reporting sales team. This includes the

setting of success criteria, providing leadership for achievement of goals for the regional sales team,

forecasting, analyzing and reporting on sales, implementing policies, and maintaining budget. Directs the

region's sales personnel and works cross-functionally with other internal Covidien ILS departments to

maximize sales efforts. Acts as a liaison between senior leadership and the region to ensure effective

two-way communication that will drive results. Manages to a clear strategic direction and is accountable

for the attainment of region sales goals.


Planning & Execution

  • Act as an Ambassador to the strategic and cultural initiatives of Medtronic ILS.

  • Serve as liaison between senior management and the region to ensure effective two-way


  • Maintains relationships with the internal cross-functional network of Medtronic ILS.

  • Develops and executes customer segment selling strategies to increase utilization.

  • Holds overall accountability for successfully executing all cross-functionally developed

implementation plans for new accounts within the Region.

  • Plans and manages his/her time so as to assure that maximum available time is spent in the field

with sales personnel in the region. It is assumed that a minimum of 70% of available time will be

spent in the field, with this time being spent equally between AMs and TMs within his/her region.

  • Direct responsibility for the effective management of field sales personnel in the region, including

recruitment, selection, training and development, coaching and feedback, and performance


  • Oversees the development of individual business plans and strategic initiatives that align with

organizational goals and objectives and enhance Medtronic ILS' competitive position and meet

customer needs.

  • Manages performance of the regional team against agreed-upon criteria and metrics, including

individual monthly, quarterly and annual sales performance objectives.

  • Actively reviews, maintains, and prepares reporting documents, including forecasts, pipeline,

market, competitor, lead generation and strategic initiatives reports that provide strategic and

tactical intelligence to the region and the business. Uses this intelligence to define or amend

individual or regional plans.

  • Develop and maintains relationships with key customers and KOLs within the region.

  • Increases credibility and brand awareness of Medtronic ILS in the marketplace.

  • Sets a standard of ethical excellence in the region for Medtronic ILS.

  • Consistently works to improve personal knowledge and sales management skills to add greater

value to current and potential customers in the region and to Medtronic ILS.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Marketing or related fields

  • Continuing education in sales & sales leadership


  • Track record of sales performance

  • Track record of sales leadership performance

  • Strong presentation skills 1 on 1 and in group settings

  • Proficient with Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • Track record of successful execution of corporate initiatives


  • Minimum 5 years of medical industry sales experience

  • Preferred 6+ years of medical industry sales experience

  • Preferred 3+ years of medical industry sales leadership experience
