The Regenerative Ag Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing agricultural practices focused on climate smart commodities and our newly funded USDA Climate Smart Commodities Grant award for Outagamie County. This position involves spearheading initiatives, collaborating with various entities, and leveraging expertise to enhance carbon sequestration measurements and agronomic practices. Additionally, the role involves providing guidance, training, and support to regional teams and stakeholders. This role is eligible for the County's telecommuting program.

Hours:

Daytime, 8 hour days with occasional night time meetings and travel.

This position may have comp time.

This is a grant funded role.

  • We offer so much more!The following duties are most critical for this position based on the grant deliverables. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

  • Regional Climate Specialist

  • Obtain and maintain specialist-level training in climate and carbon spaces related to regional agriculture.

  • Act as the Wisconsin Farmer's Union and Pheasants Forever Climate Specialist for contractual practices funded by respective grants.

  • Serve as the Fox-Wolf Basin's Climate Specialist, staying updated on Agricultural Climate Modeling solutions and providing leadership and resources to the region.

  • Carbon Sequestration Modeling and Recommendations

  • Recommend a regional carbon sequestration measurement model, detailing the pros/cons of each considered tool in a comprehensive report.

  • Provide guidance on measuring on-farm factors requested by the supply chain in addition to carbon sequestration metrics.

  • Train the Basin Agronomy Team on the chosen model and ensure consistency in its application.

  • Collaborate with Fox-Wolf staff to integrate Climate Components into Farm  Reports.

  •  Milk Study Documentation

  • Document conservation plans with regular updates and justifications, including problem-solving sections.

  • Verify and document the implementation of plans, detailing field activities, cover crops, fertilization, crop specifics, tillage, etc., with accompanying photos.

  • Provide quarterly reports with field observations and progress updates.

  • Collaborate to create a comprehensive guide based on project outcomes, outlining farm management options for achieving higher nutritional value in milk.

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Proficient computing and mobile phone application skills

  • Strong documentation and reporting skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze data and lab test reports.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and organizations.

  • Ability to interpret aerial photography, soil maps, and to use in-field measuring devices.

  • Ability to prepare and give presentations during training sessions to associations, community groups, schools, governmental entities and professionals, related to current agronomy issues and pertinent LCD programs.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Experience collaborating with the agriculture supply chain and sustainability initiatives

  • Knowledge of agronomy, animal husbandry/biology, farming practices, nutrient management and soil health, and the economics of conservation practices.

  • Knowledge of agricultural climate modeling and carbon sequestration practices.

  • Experience in providing training, guidance, and support to agricultural teams.

  • Knowledge of agricultural soil health and climate smart best management practices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, technical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Essential Physical Demands

  • Stand/walk

  • Sit (driving/operating equipment)

  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. floor to 3'7" (3'7" height of pickup truck bed)

  • Consistently working in an office and/or outdoor weather conditions and landscaping.
