JOB SUMMARY: The Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) provides respiratory care services to patients in all areas of the hospital in accordance with established policies and procedures and as prescribed by a physician.
This individual will interact with patients of all ages. The Licensed Respiratory Therapist will practice this profession in such capacities as are prescribed by NYS Law, Title VIII Education Law and the Respiratory Department job description.
Physical & Other Factors: Subject to muscular strain of lifting or moving patients, supplies, and equipment. Walks or stands for long intervals of time, sits intermittently.
Work & Environmental Conditions:
Subject to infectious diseases and environmental hazards of sterilization procedures. Generally works in a clean, well-lighted, heated and ventilated health care facility.
Job Relationships (Responsible to/for, works with): Is responsible to the Director of Respiratory Care Services and the Medical Director of Respiratory Care Services, as well as the shift charge therapist in Respiratory Care Services; Works cooperatively with physicians, nurses, and other health care personnel. At times may be assigned charge duties; supervises Respiratory Therapy Technicians as prescribed by State law.
Education: Have received an education, including completion of an approved Associate Degree Program in Respiratory Therapy or in a program determined by the Department of the State Board to be the equivalent.
Licensure/Registration/Certification: Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist to practice in New York State. Basic Life Support certified; Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification preferred.
Work Experience: Have experience satisfactory to the State Board and in accordance with the commissioner's regulations.
