Position Summary

The Refunds Analyst is responsible for performing audits on refund requests received by insurance payers and from the facilities in regards to patient refunds for accuracy and completeness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Objectively reviews and evaluates refund requests received within timely guidelines

  • Ability to identify error trends and provide audit results to manager

  • Maintain internal tracking logs for accurate status of refund requests

  • Develops and coordinates credit balance education and training

  • Demonstrates ability to identify issues outside of workflow process and escalates them when necessary

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement within team

  • Stays abreast of current policy and procedures related to the refunds and audit processes

  • Recommends changes to processes as appropriate

  • Enters posting adjustment into the practice management system according to credit balance protocol

  • Understands billing requirements for contracted and commercial payers.

  • Work efficiently with internal and external teams to ensure urgent refund requests are handled timely.

  • Process Chargebacks

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED required

Minimum of three years' experience with processing healthcare refunds including knowledge of insurance billing and coordination of benefits required

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work hours are Monday thru Friday and business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Ability to read, write and analyze detailed and complex data.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to sit for long, extended periods in one fixed location.
