POSITION SUMMARY:

Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a Refining Engineer - Project Manager to support its Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility located in North Dakota. A project manager performs project engineering duties for assigned projects during Conceptual, Feasibility, Definition, and Implementation phases of refinery projects. Is a member of cross-functional team during project Implementation stage to complete detailed design, construction and installation of facilities and equipment.

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will be based in Mandan, ND. The selected candidate will be required to travel to Dickinson, ND (100 miles) based on the project workload between sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages assigned projects through gated front-end loading engineering stages to complete estimates, schedules, business benefits, environmental/health/safety impacts, and project execution plans. Provides technical input and review to ensure detailed engineering meets corporate engineering standards. Works with project team members on project justification and economic analysis to ensure projects meet objectives. Prepares decision support packages for review and approval by management.

• Monitors and controls project performance during all stages to ensure project meets quality, cost and schedule parameters in safe and environmentally sound manner. Completes a monthly cost forecast for each project assigned.

• Collaborates with Project Controls and Construction Department staff during development of the estimate, schedule, and project execution plan to ensure alignment and optimization of resources.

• Coordinates with Procurement Department to develop procurement strategy. Tracks project materials to ensure they arrive on time and meet quality requirements.

• Develops and maintains project risk registers to identify threats most likely to impact project success. Creates risk response plans to mitigate identified risks throughout project lifecycle.

• Maintains accurate and current project documentation. Coordinates the development of start-up manuals, operating procedures, and training materials needed prior to start-up.

• Provides design engineering, technical mentoring and leadership.

• Completes engineering and design for in-house designed projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum undergraduate degree in engineering required. Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred.

• Valid driver's license required.

• Minimum 5 years design engineering experience with 3 years project engineering and/or project management experience required. Refinery engineering / project management experience is preferred.

This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
