MaineHealth Care at Home is seeking a Referral Specialist with medical administrative office experience. The Referral Specialist must possess excellent customer skills as their main job duties will include accepting intake information from patients, obtaining prior authorization from insurance providers, and collaborating with physicians.# Prior referrals/authorization experience is highly preferred.

Position Summary The Referral Specialist will ensure patients have been cleared for an appointment by resolving pre-certification, registration, and case-related concerns prior to a patient#s appointment. The referral specialist verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization if needed from the insurance provider and provides administrative support such as entering referrals and documents within the system. Additional administrative responsibilities include scheduling and managing appointments and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred with completion of business, secretarial school, or medical office assistant training with a minimum of one to two years of work experience in a healthcare setting. Key Responsibilities: Accepts intake information on all referral requests from patients, and ensures that patient information is accurate and consistent. # Processes referral according to established office and payer policies and protocols. # Communicates with physicians regarding referral requests and requirements. # Creates master schedules and daily provider schedules in the Groupcast scheduling software for all providers within the practices. # Manages/maintains daily schedules for all providers, and work with providers to balance needs of patients with provider scheduling expectations. # Maintains all appropriate referral data and paperwork. # Maintains knowledge of various payer requirements for referrals. # Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred. License/Certifications: N/A Experience: Previous medical office experience. Knowledge of managed care and medical office billing procedures. Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to accomplish multiple tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone. Strong computer skills. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and as a team member with minimal direct supervision. Ability to maintain a professional manner even under stressful situations.
