Summary
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for the handling of referrals, processing authorizations and scheduling appointments.
Principal Duties

Greet patients in a calm and helpful manner using excellent customer service skills.
Empty the Referral line daily.
Process all prior authorizations.
Coordinate referrals contacting internal or external specialty departments to schedule appointments.
Fax all pertinent information to all external physicians for appointments that are scheduled.
Complete any rescheduling of physicians schedules as needed.
Complete call backs to patients not scheduled when exiting.
Answer telephones promptly and courteously, using the Pentucket standard 3-part greeting.
Flag clinical staff with appointments and testing that has been scheduled.
Enter all appointments into EPIC with referral numbers and prior authorization numbers.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Other duties as assigned
Hours
8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Option for 4 -10's after orientation period.
Qualifications
A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience
Must have previous experience in a medical office environment.
Experience handling referrals preferred.
Skills
Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization
Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds an levels within and external to the organization
Strong problem solving and negotiation skills
Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal
Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly
Must have good working knowledge of computers.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must have the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Must be very detail orientated and have excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to multi-task.
