NWDC Red Cell OPFOR Air SME
The OPFOR Air Warfare Lead is a member of the Red Cell (OPFOR) team in support of High Tactical Level and Operational Level of War (OLW) Training/Experimentation events.
The Red Cell provides exercise planning, system architecture and event execution solutions in NWDC supported Joint, Combatant Commander (CCMD), US Fleet Forces (USFF) and the Numbered Fleets training, exercise and experimentation events.
They provide the OPFOR for the Strike Group 360/Fleet 360 Wargames conducted by NWDC N7. The goal is to provide the Fleet High Tactical and OLW level commands and Experimentation Sponsors with the most realistic training environment possible.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Air Warfare Specialist takes a leading role in the development and coordination of live and simulated OPFOR and in the generation and validation of opposition Air Orders of Battle (OOB), both in terms of numbers and capabilities. To this end, candidate is knowledgeable about air platform employment, to include strike, air defense, reconnaissance, ASW, and cargo delivery applications.
They are also knowledgeable about the capabilities and employment of cruise missiles (Land Attack, Anti-Ship, Coastal Defense) and ballistic missiles. Based on finished intelligence products and other classified and unclassified sources, apply subject matter expertise to non-US platforms, TTPs, capabilities, and operational platforms for the purposes of portraying a realistic adversary for an exercise, wargame, or experiment participant.
Develop operations plans and coordinate and manage the development of event scenario material related to the Integrated Air Defense Domain. These scenario related materials include Orders of Battle, schemes of Maneuver and Fires, capability, OPFOR scenario development, and validation for models for employment in the event and a general OPFOR Campaign Plan.
During exercise execution the candidate may act as OPFOR or Red Cell lead for their specific warfare area and OPFOR game operators to ensure the most realistic portrayal of the adversary maritime air, ballistic missile, and Cruise Missile forces as possible while ensuring the activities achieve the event objectives. Make recommendations to the Game Director and publish orders, supervise the execution of orders, and integrate, synchronize, and coordinate battlefield resources.
Recommend rules of engagement in conjunction with the white cell/exercise control. Provide direct interface from the MOC-EST to the MOC Training Team (MOC-TT) and Navy senior mentors.
Education and Experience:
Retired USN / USMC / USAF O-4/5
Graduate of Air Tactical Schools of their respective service is desired
At least 1500 flights hours in a tactical air craft
Served on a strike group, air wing or component level staff is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in FST, Service, Joint or COCOM Exercise programs a plus
Experience as an Observer-Trainer a plus
Experience with Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) is a plus
The candidate must be able to travel to locations inside and outside of CONUS and be available to travel at least Quarterly.
Must be a US citizen, currently hold and be able to maintian a Secret Security Clearance; eligible for TS/SCI Security Clearance
