The City of Pleasanton is looking for a professional and skilled Recycling Coordinator to join its team. In this role, the Recycling Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing various environmental initiatives, emphasizing program awareness, monitoring, and enforcement. Key duties include conducting research, preparing analyses and reports, and proposing program enhancements. The Coordinator will also plan and lead educational programs on waste reduction and recycling, manage public inquiries, and review reported violations of municipal recycling codes. Typical Duties
Plans, coordinates, and implements activities of various environmental programs that include program awareness, monitoring, and enforcement.
Reviews reported violations of municipal codes, ordinances, and resolutions related to the City's recycling and diversion programs.
Conducts research, evaluates results, and prepares detailed analyses, reports, presentations, and general and technical correspondence; makes recommendations for program enhancements.
Plans, develops, and conducts educational programs on waste reduction and recycling programs; speaks before school groups, to the public, and other organizations.
Prepares marketing materials, program brochures, newsletters, and announcements; uses social media and other forums to maximize community outreach and participation.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science/studies, waste management, public or business administration or a related field.
Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, organizing, developing, and implementing environmental and/or recycling programs.
Special Requirements:
Possession at the time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge of:
Municipal solid waste, waste reduction, compost, and recycling programs.
State and local solid waste and recycling laws and regulations.
Principles and practices of program development and implementation.
Research and analysis techniques.
Local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations relating to environmental projects.
Public contact and community relations.
Community resources and organizations.
Public speaking and presentation skills.
Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
Skill to:
Analyze recycling program development needs.
Plan, organize, develop, implement, and evaluate programs.
Schedule and promote special events and activities.
Conduct research projects, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and prepare effective technical reports.
Ability to:
Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations.
Make effective public presentations.
Collect, compile, analyze, and interpret statistics, new and existing laws and regulations, and program guidelines and policies.
Operate modern office equipment, including computer equipment and software applications.
Effectively communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
