These positions are responsible for the development and implementation of a recreational therapy program throughout the facility. One position will work with their assigned living units; the other position will work with the Skill Care Unit (SCU), Transitional Living Unit (TLU), and the Learning Independence for the Future through Experience (LIFE) Center. This includes assessing the needs of the patients, developing programming based on patients' needs, collaborating with other disciplines, participation as an active member of the multidisciplinary team, providing training and consultation, and preparing patients for community life.
Due to the nature of these positions, all applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
Certification or eligible for certification within 6 months of hire as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. For questions regarding certification, please visit National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
Experience and education in assessing and documenting patient leisure needs and strengths
Experience and education with developing and implementing leisure opportunities, community services, and re-entry and independent living skills
Training and/or experience assisting in the development of a treatment plan
In addition, well-qualified applicants will have:
Experience working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience and/or education developing goals and objectives to meet the needs of patients
Experience and/or education with utilizing verbal intervention techniques (i.e., motivational interviewing)
Experience working in a secure setting such as a mental health or correctional facility
