This position would require someone who either has, or is willing to obtain, a Therapeutic Recreation Technician license. This is a full time job with benefits.

In our 70 years as a non-profit, the Sunshine Terrace Foundation has grown from a small nursing home housing twelve women, to a campus of short-term & long term health services that include rehabilitation, assisted living, senior exercise, health education, and multiple types of therapy. Currently, CMS rates us 5* on our staff to resident ratio -- the highest in the valley!

Summary:Plans, organizes and implements therapeutic recreational programs for the residents of the skilled nursing facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Develops creative recreation programs that meet the physical, spiritual, emotional, cognitive and social goals of each resident's assessment and care plan.

  • Schedules and implements therapeutic recreation activities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to stay in compliance with state guidelines

  • Contacts and works with community members to gain additional support for programming needs

  • Completes data collection forms on each new resident

  • Completes all necessary paperwork to maintain resident care plans

  • Attends and participates in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and gives input into treatment plans

  • Organizes and directs activities such as sports, games, and arts & crafts

  • Coordinates volunteer group performances and activities

  • Plans and coordinates special outings for the residents

  • Maintains department budget, acquires needed supplies

  • Supervises department employees and interns

  • Monitors daily census to assess residents fluctuating needs

  • Encourages residents participation in activities and assists residents to and from the activities

  • Develops monthly calendars, showing activities for the upcoming month and distributes calendars to residents and their families

  • Attends daily leadership team meetings and other required meetings

  • Updates internship website to ensure continued internship program

  • May attend campus and high school presentations for volunteer and internship campaigns

  • Works with residents on one-on-one sensory goals

  • Upholds patient and company confidentiality at all times

  • Follows organizational policy and procedures

Marginal Functions include the following:

  • Delivers mail to residents

  • Drives the bus on outings

Job Requirements


  • Previous therapeutic recreation experience required

  • Previous managerial experience preferred


  • Generally works business hours Monday through Friday, some evenings and weekend hours may be required

Other Qualifications/Requirements

  • Therapeutic Recreation Technician certification required

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Organization skills

Supervisory and Reporting Responsibilities

  • Reports to Administrator

  • Directly supervises Music Therapy Specialist and Recreation Therapy Aides

Reports to Recreation Manager and/or Aquatic Coordinator. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be lifeguard certified and some general experience related to safe swimming, aquatic programs, or related background. Requires the ability to effectively meet and deal with the public, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and the ability to handle stressful situations. Applicants must be strong swimmers and able to maintain the necessary physical condition to do your job. Concentrated mental application required. Applicant must be a self-starter and work we ll with others. Applicant must be able to work hours determined by a weekly work schedule; this includes morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Responsibilities: Under general supervision, enforces all facility policies, rules, and regulations for the Logan Aquatic Center. Report to Recreation Manager and/or Aquatic Coordinator. Monitors water activities to assure safety and prevent accident or injury to patrons. Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies. Performs first aid as needed. Performs water rescues as needed to prevent mishaps and drowning. Inspects the facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to Aquatic Coordinator or Shift Lead. Complete records and reports as needed. Participates in all staff training and programs. Excellent customer service skills as you will have continuous contact with the public requiring tact and patience. Performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks such as: picking up trash, emptying garbage, wa shing and cleaning windows, and performing general cleanup. Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
