Job Summary:

The Recreation Supervisor is an integral part of the Recreation Division with the City of Greeley, which is responsible for providing leadership and directly oversees three Recreation Coordinator II positions and indirectly oversees approximately 27 part-time employees and 10+ volunteers. This position directly oversees operations at the Rodarte Community Center and Anna Gimmestad facility, as well as collaborating with other Recreation programs for Youth Enrichment programming, which consists of the development, coordination, and facilitation of programs and activities during out-of-school times for Greeley youth ages 5-17. The Recreation Supervisor reports to a Recreation Manager.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.

  • 2+ years' experience in a related field including supervisory or management skills.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

  • Experience managing or working in a licensed childcare environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with Colorado Department of Early Childhood rules and regulations or other state licensing equivalent

  • Meet the requirements outlined in the Colorado Department of early childhood rules and regulations for program Directors.

  • Spanish/English bilingual.

  • Valid CDL (Commercial Drivers License) or willing to work towards obtaining a CDL.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of recreation practices, trends, issues, and demographics and implementing that knowledge into programing.

  • Knowledge and experience in administrative practices and procedures related to the planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating of recreational programs, efficient operation of facilities and equipment.

  • Skill in negotiating program issues and operational requirements with personnel inside and outside the Department and City, as well as community organizations and participants.

  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, schedule, supervise, and review activities of assigned staff; analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound decisions and recommendations; follow problems through to resolution; present clear and concise oral and written reports; and learn, retain, interpret, and apply pertinent information to staff.

Essential Functions:

Facility Management

  • Serves as the point person for operations for the Rodarte Community Center and Youth Enrichment programs.

  • Complies with CDC and School District Six guidelines and follows all child care licensing requirements for the State of Colorado.

  • Coordinates with proper CPRD personnel for general maintenance and repair of facilities.

  • Oversees programs and rental groups that utilize the facilities.

  • Collaborates with CPRD personnel in oversight of facility improvement projects.

Personnel Management

  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates staff including three Recreation Coordinators and a full time Customer Service Representative.

  • Oversees approximately 27 part-time staff, depending on the time of the year.

  • Provides guidance and direction for staff and ensures children are safe at all times under the care of Youth Enrichment.

  • Demonstrates quality customer service through the development of relationships with participants, community members, and various organizations. Maintain staff certifications, including Commercial Driver Licenses.

Program Management

  • Develops, promotes, implements, evaluates, and manages a variety of Youth Enrichment programs and special events.

  • Explores sponsorship opportunities and work with Marketing to provide advertising opportunities within the Rodarte Community Center.

  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with community organizations such as Weld County School District Six, High Plains Library District, North Rage Behavioral Health, and Weld Food Bank.

  • Tracks program attendance and participation trends. Explore grant opportunities and monitor existing grants.

Technology and Risk Management

  • Monitors Rodarte Community Center and programs to ensure patron safety.

  • Evaluates and monitors parent engagement applications.

  • Ensures youth check in/out processes are properly tracked and approved adults are picking up participants from programs.

  • Abides by the staff to child ratio continually, so that ratios meets licensing standards.

  • Ensures staff are never one-on-one with a child and that two staff are present at all times with each child or group of children.

  • Inspects facilities by walking the building/exterior to ensure a safe, clean, and positive environment.

  • Enforces program and facility rules and guidelines.

  • Oversees record keeping of all required documentation as it pertains to Youth Enrichment operations and maintenance.

Board/Commission and Community Relations

  • Serves as the Youth Net Coalition, Youth Commission and Rodarte Advisory Board staff liaison.

  • Creates agendas, minutes and reminders for the Coalition, Commission, and the Board.

  • Facilitates meetings and special events to include the Commission and the Board.

Fiscal Management

  • Responsible for preparation and administration of the Youth Enrichment budget and related funds, and the development of reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division financial goals.

  • Monitors and reports on all Youth Enrichment expense and revenue budgets.

  • Oversees Youth Enrichment staff payroll.

  • Responsible for preparation and administration of Youth Enrichment/Rodarte Community Center budget and related funds, and the development of reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division financial goals.

  • Coordinates with Recreation Manager and Public Works to develop capital improvement plans for the Rodarte Community Center.

Assessment

  • Administers surveys and focus groups to gauge participant satisfaction levels, gain constructive feedback, and foster ideas for program improvements.

Communication

  • Communicates with the Youth Net Youth Commission, Rodarte Advisory Board, Weld Food Bank, UNC, High Plains Library District, and general outreach.

Problem solving and decision-making

  • Incumbent is expected to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization.

  • Changing priorities or differing situations requires the incumbent to consider which among many procedures should be followed in what sequence to achieve the required job results.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment.
