GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to supervise the daily operation of the division or department's recreation programs and activities of an assigned Natural Areas Park.

This position will be responsible for the natural areas maintenance primarily at Kelley's Landing and also at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, working with their assigned supervisor. The position will be primarily responsible for helping to maintain and clear trails, oversee park visitors, as well as develop passive and interpretive programming for youth and adults. This position will also be responsible for assisting with accessible trail initiatives at both parks. This position will provide customer service in the Nature Center at Raven Run and as needed at Kelley's Landing or other natural areas parks. Lastly, this position will supervise seasonal staff in peak seasons.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • No experience required
  • Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enforces rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety

  • Conducts maintenance, land management, and safety inspections within Natural Areas Parks

  • Develops, implements, manages, administers and coordinates activities of assigned programs for youth and adults

  • Provides passive and active nature programming within Natural Areas parks

  • Oversees and implements accessibility programming at Kelley's Landing Park and Raven Run Nature Sanctuary

  • Develops and maintains relationships with a diverse variety of local businesses, neighborhood associations, universities, vendors, coworkers, employees and general public

  • Engages with, creates and maintains third party partnerships to support the programming needs of the Natural Areas

  • Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates the work of subordinates and volunteers

  • Administers, leads and/or supervises organized programs for youth and adults

  • Develops, prepares and provides various reports for division related to program goals, objectives, and performance

  • Provides communication, customer service, and response to all visitors and/or clients

  • Performs other work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Valid Driver's License
  • First Aid and CPR/AED Certification must be obtained within first six (6) months of employment and maintained as a condition of continued employment
  • Position is required to obtain appropriate Pesticide Applicator license from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture within first six (6) months of employment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and/or weekends, holidays, perform on-call duty, and split shifts when required
