Responsibilities

The Recreation Supervisor works together with students and staff to develop a program for their leisure time.

  • Supervises all recreation/non-vocational staff activity insuring that students receive instruction in the safety aspects of all activities, e.g., drown proofing. Conducts in-service staff training session

  • Plans and arranges for all on-center activities, to include provision for cultural activities, arts and crafts, sports and games

  • Maintains recreation/non-vocational supplies and equipment, and orders replacements as necessary

  • Submits timely reports on recreation/non-vocational activities

  • Formulates and recommends new or revised recreation/non-vocational programs to the Residence Director

  • Insures that all programs comply with DOL requirements

  • Makes community contacts with directors of recreational facilities to create a favorable impression and to develop rapport

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field. Two year's experience in supervising recreation/non-vocational programs, including athletics, sports and crafts, music and drama.

Required: Must possess a valid State driver's license.

Ability to obtain a CDL if required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Working knowledge of various recreation/avocational activities.

Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

Ability to effectively relate to student population. Ability to inspire students and staff

Knowledge Required: Thorough knowledge of a variety of recreation/non-vocational activities.

Thorough knowledge of a variety of recreation/non-vocational activities. Ability to obtain lifeguard certification as required. Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

Ability to relate effectively with trainee population. Ability to inspire and motivate trainees.

Recreation Leader is a part time seasonal class that provides guidance to recreation aides, volunteers, and participants in conducting recreation activities; and assists professional staff in planning, organizing and conducting recreation activities and events. Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of experience and education or training that is likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities for this class; typical qualifying experience is: Either: 1. 30 semester units from an accredited college or university in recreation. Or: 2. One year of full-time paid or volunteer experience as a group leader in an organized recreation program. Note: If the word "experience" is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements. Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational or certificate/license requirement, applicants must submit proof of requirements with the application.
