Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, sports management, or a related field; one year of experience in recreation work, or event planning; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, public relations, and management skills necessary to work within deadline constraints.
Knowledge of recreation programs and objectives as well as behavior management preferred; strong computer skills; ability to interact with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds; CPR and first aid certification desired. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal backgroundcheck and education/degree verification required.
Duties
TheRecreationSpecialist- Senior Center CoordinatorisanintegralpartoftheChesterfield Baptist Church/Huguenot Road Baptist Church SeniorCenterscommunity providing fun and educational programs to a large, close-knit group focusing on those 50 and older.The Recreation Specialist will operate under direct supervision of the 50+ Active Lifestyles Supervisor/Principal Recreation Specialist and will develop and implement programs for the Chesterfield Baptist Church and Huguenot Road Baptist Church Senior Centers. May support other centers as needed.
Job responsibilities include the following:
Daily senior center administrative duties.
Programandspecialeventscoordination.Plan,coordinate,implementandevaluateprograms.Program registration andmaintenance.
Order supplies and materials needed for programs and/or the senior center.
Program guide submission.
Assist instructors with scheduling their programs.
Special events decoration designs.
Invoice processing.
Program marketing which includes flyer design and distribution.
Instructor/vendor contracts and payments.
Effectively utilize automated systems and other software to assure efficient office management.
Senior program coordination, supervision and evaluation.
Responsibleforbookingentertainmentandprocessingpayments.
Locate and supervise new instructors and volunteers.
Setting up rooms for daily activities.
Enforce facility rules and regulations.
Perform other work as required.
