General Purpose of Position
Performs routine and complex administrative work in planning, organizing, coordinating and administering a variety of programs and special events.
Major Duties and Responsibilities - Aquatics and Fitness
Coordinates various classes, special events, and programs offered by the Department with a general emphasis on aquatics and fitness.
Responsible for building and improving the current aquatics programs for youth, adults, and those with special needs
Assists in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time and seasonal employees and program volunteers, in order to conduct indoor and outdoor pool operations, aquatics programs, fitness programs and special events.
Demonstrates proper equipment operation for part-time and seasonal employees.
Develops employee and patron instructional manuals for various activities.
Determines work procedures, and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Prepares work plans and schedules for part-time and seasonal employees.
Coordinates and schedules reservations for use of agency aquatics facilities.
Plans, prepares, and coordinates the operations of the indoor and outdoor pool.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
Maintains harmony among workers and patrons and resolves grievances; performs or assists subordinates in performing duties; adjusts errors and complaints.
Assures attendance of adequate amount of support personnel, including program and security staff to ensure smooth operations at pools, programs, and special events
Assists in negotiating and securing contracts, leases, agreements, releases, and other documents.
Maintains records and statistics for programs and personnel.
Assists with operations of concessions at outdoor pool.
Provides for proper communication for the Recreation Division
Provides advice to supervisors; makes presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public
Communicates official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.
Responds to public inquiries about aquatics facilities and recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.
Produce promotional materials for programs, pools, and special events.
Performs oversight over specific recreational activities which may include but not limited to
Pool operations (Schedule rental times, collecting revenues, overseeing and/or performing pool equipment maintenance, etc.)
Swim lesson program
Aquatics fitness programs
Special events ("Splish-Splash Bash, Underwater Egg Hunt, Boo Bash, 5K Suicide Prevention Glow Run, etc.)
Indoor and Outdoor pool rentals
Outdoor Pool Concession Stand
Performs other duties as directed
Education and Experience
The person in this position must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field, and at least one year of experience in recreation. Any equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
For Aquatics, Fitness position:
First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified Preferred
CPO or AFO Preferred
Certification through Ellis and Associates Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
A valid driver's license is required.
