Our Sports Recreation Services Leaders are a key part of our sports division. They assist or may even lead sports programs such boxing, baseball, basketball, soccer, and beyond. If this sounds good, keep reading!

Essential Job Functions
Plans and coordinates athletic activities including tournaments, leagues and sports contests.
Monitors the use and care of equipment and facilities at one or more parks.
Inspects equipment and facilities for safety and proper operation.
Maintains or assists in maintaining safety, cleanliness, and order at park facilities; monitors activities and ensures safety rules are observed.
Assists in the preparation of athletic fields and venues for tournaments and leagues.
Assists with routine clerical duties such as the preparation of use permits and reports, fee collection and reporting, and program scheduling.
Assists in the handling of public complaints.
Provides direction to temporary or seasonal staff and volunteers as needed.
Trains and Monitors program volunteers on code of conduct.
Recruits sports program participants, coaches, and other volunteers
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Six (6) months (960 hours) planning and overseeing youth or adult organized sports programing for a sports-based organization, school, or government agency.
A total of four (4) seasons/semesters of experience as an athlete in a High School or College sports program*. 240 hours of experience instructing, conducting, coaching, or planning recreational programs, as mentioned in Option 1, may be substituted for a season/semester of experience as an athlete, for up to three (3) seasons/semesters.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS III: Moderate
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
Highschool or College Transcripts must clearly show enrollment and passing grade in the sport. For instance, if you have 2 semesters as a high school or college athlete, you would need a total of 480 hours (2 x 240 hours) of experience in sports programing, as mentioned in Option I, in order to qualify.

This exam will consist of one part:
A structured oral interview weighted 100% covering knowledge of Sports Program Development and Administration, Sports Instruction, Planning, Prioritization, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Continual Learning, Problem Solving, Interpersonal Skills, and Ethics/Integrity.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
All County workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Employment is subject to passing a medical examination which will be scheduled after security clearance for candidates who receive contingent offers of employment.
The resulting eligible list for this examination will be use to fill PERMANENT vacancies within the Department of Parks and Recreation throughout Los Angeles County.
