Description
Performs skilled trades work maintaining the cleanliness of parks, marking and preparing ball fields, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Examples of Duties
Operates non-CDL dump trucks, chainsaw, weed eater, etc. in the construction, maintenance, and repair of park facilities.
Clears sidewalks and parking lots of snow, litter, overgrown grass, and brush.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance to assigned equipment.
Mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, weed eats, trims trees and shrubs; sprays pesticides, spreads fertilizer; assists with landscape installation and preforms related landscaping duties in the maintenance of City grounds.
Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks.
Sets up for various events; sets up tents, tables and chairs, puts up and removes decorations and barricades; cleans up and restores area after events.
Picksuprefuse, trash, limbs, leaves, etc., and transports to appropriate facilities from park spaces.
Checksforsafetyofplaygroundandparkequipment.
Preparesathleticfields;mows,fertilizes,andrakesfields;laysoutfields,alignsbases,stripesfield,etc.
Usesavarietyofhandheldandmotorizedtoolsandequipmentsuchaschainsaws,blowers,hedgeclippers,etc.
Cleansandmaintainsassignedrestrooms.
Performsgeneralmaintenanceworksuchaspainting,installingand/orrepairingpicnictables,swings,slides, water fountains, bench boards, bleachers, and other park equipment.
Performs various ground maintenance duties such as grass seeding, horticulture work, snow removal, or work related with special events.
May be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency situations.

MinimumEducationandExperience:
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Playground Maintenance Course - preferred
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, capabilities, and limitations of equipment used in area of assignment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of regulations governing equipment operation.
Knowledge of parks drainage, buildings, grounds, utilities, landscape areas and related construction, maintenance and repair procedures.
General knowledge of plant identification, maintenance schedules, chemical applications and grounds maintenance equipment.
Knowledgeofgroundmaintenancetechniquesandequipment.
Skills:
Skill in the operation of equipment to which assigned.
Effective communication skills.
Groundmaintenanceskills.
Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of equipment.
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustment to equipment.
