Job Summary

Oversees, directs, coaches and motivates the Recreation Coordinator Assistant positions (RCA I and RCA II) while working at The REC of Grapevine.

Essential Functions

1.Attends to the daily operation and opening and closing of The REC of Grapevine as well as assists with various programs and community events.

2.Assigns tasks, trains part-time staff, assists with part-time staff schedules, and fills shifts as needed.

3.Assists with program and event set up, tear down and implementation, including working both inside and outside in various locations of The REC of Grapevine.

4.Performs general maintenance and housekeeping duties in the Parks and Recreation Department.

5.Ensures a safe working environment at for all of The REC of Grapevine.

6.Completes various reports and submits them to the appropriate supervisor.

7.Provides recommendations for purchasing supplies, food, drinks and equipment to manage The REC of Grapevine.

8.Makes recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline and termination of part-time employees working at The REC of Grapevine.

9.Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriately assigned to the position.



  1. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. Lead position will be responsible for morning and evening shifts.

  2. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

  3. Areas of focus will include Membership, Fitness and Child Watch.


Required Skills

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions.

  • Ability to train Part-Time staff on proper procedures for areas of The REC of Grapevine.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service by responding to customers' questions and needs.

  • Ability to perform cash handling duties and demonstrate an understanding of proper cash handling procedures.

  • Must have some knowledge of The REC registration software (Amilia).

  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

  • Must have physical ability to work outdoors, lift up to 40 pounds, load, move, and set up various equipment needed for the camp, event, or class.

  • Must have the ability to work flexible schedules allowing them to work various times and be available nights, weekends, and some holidays.

  • Must have good communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead, coordinate, schedule, coach and motivate staff.

  • Ability to lead and/or work with staff, volunteers, youth, vendors, and customers in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED and minimum age 18.

Must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and work outdoors as required.

Must possess or obtain upon hire CPR certification.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check, credit check, and have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Must be comfortable working in Windows based computer system and will be required to demonstrate efficient computer processing skills within six weeks of hire.

While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors. There will be some exposure to:

  • Bright/dim light

  • Dusts and pollen

  • Extreme heat and/or cold

  • Wet or humid conditions

  • Extreme noise levels

  • Animals/wildlife

  • Vibration

  • Fumes and/or noxious odors

  • Traffic

  • Moving machinery

Safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety vests, steel-toe boots, back support belts, and seat belts are provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
