Job Description Summary:

GYMNASTICS

The City of Boulder's fun and popular gymnastics program is offering an opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to join our team and make a difference in our community by helping young athletes develop and grow.  This position offers the chance to join an inspired and dedicated coaching staff and become an integral part of our team.  Our coaches take a collaborative approach in developing our athletes and show a strong commitment to our participants and each other.

SWIMMING

Teach various levels of swimming, evaluates and communicate swimmers progress with the parents. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, possess strong communication skills and be in good physical condition.

Available shifts are variable and flexible; weekday daytime availability is preferred but not required. Swim Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool.

NINJA

The City of Boulder's Ninja Obstacle Training program is offering an opportunity for friendly and energetic individuals to join our team and make a difference in our community by helping young ninjas develop and grow.

Job Description:

SWIM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Swim)

  • Instructs children, youth and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques.

  • Tests and evaluates class participants.

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or players, and/or customers.

  • Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.

  • Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Swim)

  • Interest, desire and ability to provide excellent customer service.

  • Minimum Age: 16 years old.

  • Tactful and effective communication skills.

  • Clean and neat appearance.

  • Have the swim abilities of the standard for the American Red Cross learn to swim program.

  • Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.

  • Ability to work well with children, youth and adults.

  • Available and willing to work scheduled hours.

  • Current water instructor certification and ongoing ability to pass all certification components.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills.

  • Interest, desire and ability to provide excellent customer service.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (Swim)

  • American Red Cross WSI certification.

GYMNASTICS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Gymnastics)

  • Teach more developmentally advanced gymnastics classes, including but not limited to, preschool, recreation, team prep, and team programs.

  • Can teach and spot higher level skills for our girls' and boys' teams.

  • Equipment set up, maintaining roll sheets, and communicating with parents.

  • Circuit and curriculum development and leadership role with staff by sharing your gymnastics knowledge.

  • Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Tests and evaluates class participants for skills promotions

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or customers.

  • Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.

  • Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Gymnastics)

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Prior or current USA Gymnastics (USAG) member, either as an athlete or professional member,

  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgments related to safety. Understanding and observing participant behavior and monitoring exertion levels. Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.

  • Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators, with excellent customer service.

  • Strong understanding of basic gymnastics with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.  Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with spotting of gymnastics skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with coaching partners about lesson plan ideas. Work closely with coordinators and floor leads. Willingness to accept and provide feedback.

  • Understanding of the importance of punctuality & consistency. Being able to commit to the agreed-upon schedule.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (Gymnastics)

  • Current USAG Professional Membership including up to date U110: SafeSport, U101: Safety & Risk Management, U112: Tough Coaching Course, and U100: Foundations of Gymnastics.

  • Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.

  • Have coached on the floor at a USAG Sanctioned competition

  • Have attended USAG Regional Congress

NINJA

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Ninja)

  • Teach, explain and demonstrate age appropriate ninja obstacle training to school aged youth ages 5-12

  • Provide instruction and supervision of more developmentally advanced ninja obstacle training to participants ages 13 and up.

  • Provide basic instruction and ensure appropriate ninja studio usage to youth, teens, and adults during drop-in times.

  • Can teach and spot higher level skills for more advanced participants.

  • May work as a coach during ninja birthday parties by providing feedback to participants as they experience the Ninja Studio.

  • Equipment set up, maintaining roll sheets, and communicating with parents.

  • May test or perform routine inspection on equipment to ensure proper safety precautions.

  • Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Tests and evaluates class participants for skills promotions

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or customers.

  • Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Prior experience as an athlete or coach in ninja obstacle training, gymnastics, parkour, or related sport.

  • Ability to evaluate conditions in ninja studio and make judgments related to safety. Understanding and observing participant behavior and monitoring exertion levels. Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.

  • Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators, with excellent customer service.

  • Strong knowledge of basic ninja/parkour/gymnastics movements with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.  Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with basic spotting of ninja skills.

  • Understanding of the importance of punctuality & consistency. Being able to commit to the agreed-upon schedule.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (Ninja)

  • Previous experience working with school age children and teens.

  • Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.

  • Current member of a ninja, gymnastics, parkour, or related sport organization, (UNAA, WFPF, NNL, USAG, AMGA, etc.)

  • Current Ninja Coach Certification - UNAA, SPOTTED, WNL
