Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of a City of St. George Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics, assists in developing and managing various programs, events, and/or facility operations; assists with the development, interpretation, training, and enforcement of division policies and practices; provides suggestions to improve the overall program; and helps develop short-range goals and plans.

Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)

1.Provides leadership by taking charge of specific parts of an assigned program, event, or facility operation.

2.Schedules employees and/or contractors, volunteer groups, and vendors.

3.Assists in interviewing potential staff employees.

4.Assists in providing feedback and evaluation to the Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics for employees and contractors who work under their direction at events, programs, or facilities.

5.Handles minor employee issues when Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics is not on duty or at that specific site and then reports back to supervisor.

6.Helps recruit, train, and organize volunteers.

7.Assists the Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and helps to maintain relationships with program contractors.

8.Coordinates with sponsors and helps to create new partnerships.

9.Manages inventory controls and oversee the proper use, safety, and security of all supplies, and makes requests to the Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics for purchase of equipment needed.



  1. Assists the Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics in budgetary process and assumes responsibility for cost control during events, programs, or facilities.

  2. Performs money handling duties, and implements city policies and procedures on proper money handling.

  3. Works with the Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics to advertise the programs and sign-up dates, and ensures that the mission and program policy are known to all participants.

  4. Works in a broad range of assignments with limited to no training such as children's camps, races, tournaments, pool management, Huntsman Senior Games, and special events.

  5. Performs other related duties as required.

  6. Teaches Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED Courses.

  7. Completes daily deposit batches, check for accuracy in daily till reconciliation.

  8. Trains Head Guards on proper procedures, daily tasks, and responsibilities.

  9. Oversees web page management.

  10. Resolves minor issues with public when Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics is not on duty.

  11. Manages closures of facilities as per safety protocol requirements.

  12. Oversees multiple facilities when Assistant Recreation Manager-Aquatics is not on duty.

  13. Assists in management of Emergency Actions Plan.

  14. Helps develop and maintain Aquatic Facility policy and procedures manual.

  15. Conducts/Oversees in-services and seasonal orientations for all aquatic staff


Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field.

Experience:

â- Minimum of one year experience working in programs and special events for the City of St. George, or a similar organization, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks

â- Minimum of one year experience using Sportsman SQL, or similar registration management software platform, showing adequate knowledge and skill in assigned tasks preferred

â- Customer service experience preferred

â- Cash handling experience preferred

â- Experience overseeing the work of other part time employees preferred

Licenses and/or Certifications:

â- Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.

â- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

â- Maintain certifications as necessary to have the proper depth of knowledge and experience to complete assigned tasks and responsibilities.

â- Lifeguard Certified (Must obtain within 3 Months)

â- Lifeguard Instructor Certified (Must obtain within 9 Months)

â- Water Safety Instructor Certified (Must obtain within 3 months)

â- Utah Food Handlers Permit (Must obtain within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

â- Facilities' rules and regulations.

â- Pool and facility maintenance.

â- Facilities' Emergency Action Plan.

â- Using Spreadsheets, Word Documents, and G Suite.

Skills:

â- Show good judgment in preventing injuries and responding to recreation related injuries based on an understanding of risk management.

â- Establish good community relations.

â- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, civic organizations, and the public.
